Happy St. Patrick’s Day

To get into the St. Patrick’s Day Spirit Emily and I made some Irish Soda Bread.  Every year I have to make a few loaves since we devour it within the day and then I wonder why I only make it once a year for St. Patrick’s Day.  I guess if I made it every day it wouldn’t be so special!

Baking Irish Soda Bread with Emily

I mixed the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt into a bowl and then Emily scooped it into the bowl.

Next, she dumped in a cup of raisins.

Then, poured in 1 1/3 cups buttermilk (we used milk soured with 1 tablespoon of vinegar)

Emily mixed it together and then I helped her make sure it was all mixed :0)

I gave Emily a piece to kneed.  She was so excited to have her own piece to work with.   I made a cross in the top of both loaves and put them in the oven to bake for 55 minutes (Emily’s mini loaf only took about 30 minutes to cook)

Irish Soda Bread Recipe

3 cup flour
3 Tbsp. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup raisins
1 1/3 cup buttermilk ( I just add 1 Tbsp vinegar or lemon juice to milk)


Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.  Stir in raisins and buttermilk.  Mix and knead.  Shape into a circle and with a knife make cross in the top.  Bake at 375 for 55 minutes.

  4. Hi again. Okay the bread was delish. The girls are on there second pieces. I am not a baker because I always mess the recipe up but I will be making this again.
