The linky will be open all week.  Be sure to stop by and visit the different links…every week there are so many different and fun book and craft ideas!

Check out the  stART tab in my navigation bar where you can find our past stART projects.  All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.

imageThis week we all really enjoyed reading Shoes for Me!, by Sue Fliess.  This is a cute book about a little Hippo who is on the quest for the perfect pair of shoes.  The playful rhyming text is fun to read and since both Emily and Juliette LOVE shoes they especially enjoyed hearing about all the different shoes in this book.  Shoes for Me! was the perfect book to get us excited to hunt for the perfect pair of shoes this weekend!

For our project I thought it would be fun for Emily to decorate her own pair of shoes.  She agreed and decided she wanted to make flip flops.

IMG_8023IMG_8024I cut out a pair out of craft foam and Emily set to work  coloring  them with markers and decorate them with sequins and spangles.

To finish them off I used hot glue to glue on the straps.   IMG_8025 Emily’s Finished Flip Flops.

Now hopefully we will have as much fun on our Shoe Hunt this weekend!

This week we found Beetle Bop, by Denise Fleming at our Library.  This is a cute book with a fun descriptive text about all different types of beetle bugs.  It was perfect since Emily has been learning about bugs at school.  Although the book does not go into much detail it is a great way to share all different descriptive words that can be used to talk about beetles.  It was a lot of fun to read and Emily and I were able to talk about what we saw on each page.

After reading the book we decided to make some of our one bugs.  I still have cardboard egg cartons in my supply stash so I gave one to Emily for the body of her beetle.   IMG_8009IMG_8010   Emily decided she wanted to make a lady bug so I gave her a marker and some red paint.  Then she asked for wiggly eyes and pipe cleaners for legs.IMG_8013

While Emily was working on her project Juliette took one of the egg carton cups to decorate her own.  Although she did not add any extra details to it she had a great time working on this project “with” Emily!

Muffin Tin Monday

We have been having a lot of Muffin Tin Meals especially this past week.  Emily and Juliette keep asking for them, and they are really so much fun for me to make that I just can’t say no! I love that filling the individual cups motivates me give them different things that I would not  normally think of for their meals.  I find myself thinking, “I did a dairy and a grain what fruits or veggies do I have for the other cups?”  I really feel like I give my girls much more well rounded meals in Muffin Tins :0)

This week we have been enjoying all of the wonderful things that Spring has to offer, like flowers, trees blooming and some nice weather.  Emily also enjoyed reading Wake Me In Spring! , by James Preller.  In this book a bear is so tired and just wants to sleep (hibernate) all winter, but his friend mouse wants him to stay up and play.  He tries to convince him to stay up by telling him all the great things that you can do in the winter.  Bear says that he will not miss any of those winter things, but will miss his friend.  He tells him to wake him up in Spring when the flowers bloom.  After reading this cute story, we talked about all the fun things that we did in the winter (built snowmen, had hot chocolate) and then we talked about all the fun things we do in the Spring.  Emily loves the flowers so we made special flower pictures to go along with this book.

IMG_7989When I was over my grandmother’s house I noticed this really old pack of mini baking cups and she said that I could take them.  I knew they would be perfect for a project and we put them to use right away…to make Spring Flowers!

IMG_7986I gave Emily all of the supplies and we each worked on our own flowers.  After watching what I did she made her own.  It was so much fun to create together.  I love seeing how she tries to make more realistic pictures all on her own.    IMG_7987

She used a large baking cup and a small baking cup to make the flower.

IMG_7990Then she added construction paper for the grass, sun and leaves.  A popsicle stick for the stem. Do-A Dot markers and bug stickers helped to bring the picture to life!! IMG_7991 Emily’s Spring Flower

Wordless Wednesday ~ They Really do Love Each Other!

IMG_7917

We have been having sleepovers on our living room floor for naptime.  This has been the ONLY way that I can get Juliette to her much needed nap these days.  They both thought it was the best thing ever.  We put all the blankets and pillows on the living room floor and turn on some calm music and Juliette loves to lay with Emily.  I was so glad that I was able to capture this moment before they went to sleep.  They really do love each other :0)

We’re in Family Fun Magazine!!!

IMG_7827

I always look forward to getting our Family Fun Magazine in the mail, but this month it was even more exciting since we were featured in the May issue!!

IMG_7825

I was so excited when I was contacted about having our Whoopie Pie Post featured.  Emily thought that is was really neat to be in the magazine, and has been showing it to everyone who comes over.  She even brought it to school for Show and Tell!

Muffin Tin Monday

This week the girls were so excited to have their Muffin Tin Monday.  Both Emily and Juliette love having their lunch or any meal for that matter in a Muffin Tin.  They are both so different though.  Emily saves her dessert for last and east all of her other food first, but Juliette goes right for the dessert and then eats most of her other food :0)

This week Emily found a little Caterpillar on our steps so we have been talking about Caterpillars and Butterflies.  Of course that means we have been enjoying reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar , by Eric Carle.  This is one of Emily’s favorite books and it is about a cute little caterpillar that eats and eats and eats until he is a very big caterpillar.  He makes a cocoon (which should be a chrysalis) and becomes a beautiful butterfly.

Emily wanted to make her own Very Hungry Caterpillar to go with the story and I had a lot of egg cartons in my supply stash so I thought this would be a good way to use one of them. IMG_7957  I cut the egg carton into a caterpillar shape and then Emily went to work painting it.  I gave her light green, dark green and red paint and she did all the painting herself.

Emily added foam eyes and nose and pipe cleaner feet and antennae (I helped with the pipe cleaner parts).

Emily was very happy with how her caterpillar came out!!
