<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Muffin Tin Monday is now part of our routine and Clara looks forward to it each week. This week for Muffin Tin Monday Clara helped me fill her muffin tin with some of the things she likes to eat. It is fun to see what she picks out and it also makes me happy that she asks for these healthy fruits and veggies, hopefully she will continue to make such good food choices as she gets older!!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We love making our own homemade Pom Poms from yarn in all different sizes and enjoy using them in all types of games. When we decided to work on the Making Games badge with Emily's Girl Scout Brownie Troop I put out some of our big pom poms for the girls to incorporate into their own games. The girls were so amazed that I made the pom poms myself that I knew I was going to have to teach them how to make their own! So, when I was thinking what we could do for the Pets badge I decided it would be cute to have the girls create their own Pom Pom Pets out of their own homemade pom poms. This activity turned out to be one of the most fun and creative meetings that we have had together and it was so awesome to see how the girls were each able to create their own unique pom pom pet. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG7AJh24mwsUcYlGuLvDwRaJz-o7BrrYAR4uF8zyfW5yym4WQCh2RoaRsIRSSGVNRQ7tWQB_h8CbYXCdFGva-dxU1SNjbWVhltV3WY6ABWrPlwYpS240XpV1Pz0qnsv_2JmJK6iw-vUx0/s1600/PomPomPets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="384" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG7AJh24mwsUcYlGuLvDwRaJz-o7BrrYAR4uF8zyfW5yym4WQCh2RoaRsIRSSGVNRQ7tWQB_h8CbYXCdFGva-dxU1SNjbWVhltV3WY6ABWrPlwYpS240XpV1Pz0qnsv_2JmJK6iw-vUx0/s640/PomPomPets.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Emily had so much fun with it that we worked on creating more of them together with Juliette the next day.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For our pom pom pets the girls were able to pick from all different colors of yarn. We used both cotton and worsted weight yarn. We also used lots of other things from our craft stash such as felt, pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes, and craft foam.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnHvpGwHlqqP1UiUVUxftghiHo_nFlRjwrjQPjP8Fe0CC3BWkOnA6yCm3ldFL8uBRUhP-xi_cBH6NvlvR5780lnygztfKCXBl3oKjS4oWG-YKDFnF0AYHKJ1-4dD0xSVIBbb8njlST3Ko/s1600/IMG_3993.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="468" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnHvpGwHlqqP1UiUVUxftghiHo_nFlRjwrjQPjP8Fe0CC3BWkOnA6yCm3ldFL8uBRUhP-xi_cBH6NvlvR5780lnygztfKCXBl3oKjS4oWG-YKDFnF0AYHKJ1-4dD0xSVIBbb8njlST3Ko/s640/IMG_3993.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="text-align: center;">To make the pom poms we wrapped the yarn loosely around a piece of cardboard. I just told them if you want a fuller pom pom you wrap it a lot, if you want a thinner pom pom you wrap it less.</span><span style="text-align: center;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-V3ux-ag5aYT0iOkKpcsOJcubDrONzAgCsF4QVR_KHJVSKwR8Wg-WqpI94t2Fi2D7VnRrBKjmdihcNt9b8YC6W8CRrqHImYYe4uE0kq9b70lMM2gYQ-D0CspSWWDhmvpQEQ-jPz3F19s/s1600/IMG_3995.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="459" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-V3ux-ag5aYT0iOkKpcsOJcubDrONzAgCsF4QVR_KHJVSKwR8Wg-WqpI94t2Fi2D7VnRrBKjmdihcNt9b8YC6W8CRrqHImYYe4uE0kq9b70lMM2gYQ-D0CspSWWDhmvpQEQ-jPz3F19s/s640/IMG_3995.jpg" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> Then we pulled it off of the cardboard and wrapped a pipe cleaner around the middle. I found that this worked really well for the girls because it was easier than tying the yarn around the middle. They were also able to shape the pipe cleaners into tails or ears if we kept them longer. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzMYBo7h79sazDQFmQ2uTrAs5ESrKVC4r8KepMWRHIKEuN2WDMKrxU38z6hBowOlc6OWP6vf-uCou-kEKPCsop9z6ELE7Nkzh-5enUcACxMAA_CH5gjc6NHGMkUyUyong__PNORuOZcuU/s1600/IMG_3996.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="475" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzMYBo7h79sazDQFmQ2uTrAs5ESrKVC4r8KepMWRHIKEuN2WDMKrxU38z6hBowOlc6OWP6vf-uCou-kEKPCsop9z6ELE7Nkzh-5enUcACxMAA_CH5gjc6NHGMkUyUyong__PNORuOZcuU/s640/IMG_3996.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> Once the yarn is secured you need to cut each one of the loops that was formed apart. We find it easiest to do only a few at a time. Just slid the scissors between the loop and snip.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguVBev3J5yTuF_ilKf8gXVa-d93gYM6FHUH-ieXQqSRsh56Hbxx7vPgvcOX-_GFIkSXjb8B-2Je2JowwPM9Blg2W7ILYXTlX7DJPd-UejJYS7r7BLEO627mfSntskAMrKj00FhFI3tPZk/s1600/IMG_3998.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguVBev3J5yTuF_ilKf8gXVa-d93gYM6FHUH-ieXQqSRsh56Hbxx7vPgvcOX-_GFIkSXjb8B-2Je2JowwPM9Blg2W7ILYXTlX7DJPd-UejJYS7r7BLEO627mfSntskAMrKj00FhFI3tPZk/s640/IMG_3998.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Now the pom pom is ready for its hair cut. I think this is our favorite part of making pom poms! It is also the messiest, but the fun is worth the mess!! The girls held the pom pom by the pipe cleaner tail, then trimmed their pom poms until they were happy with the shape. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga3B5AFNPxsl_36P7r7Llw5Y-2NiRNfC7EBNDvYpDfVJ_Urhd9NiT2CDHjmeh5ZYrylUqCZf0M8rnqiJhVbs6Qtb5K_eN2Xj7UtmGiu347iOC1Bp_s1fK9Mz2OSKWd7m4cCa5aJy0_C-I/s1600/IMG_3490.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga3B5AFNPxsl_36P7r7Llw5Y-2NiRNfC7EBNDvYpDfVJ_Urhd9NiT2CDHjmeh5ZYrylUqCZf0M8rnqiJhVbs6Qtb5K_eN2Xj7UtmGiu347iOC1Bp_s1fK9Mz2OSKWd7m4cCa5aJy0_C-I/s640/IMG_3490.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Finally, lets get decorating!!! The girls cut out shapes from felt, craft foam for ears, noses, legs, wings, teeth or whatever else they thought their animals needed and then used the hot glue gun (with my assistance) to glue them on to the pom poms. They also added wiggly eyes and shaped the pipe cleaners to make wings. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">To help the girls get ideas for the pom pom pets they looked at books and we googled some of the animals so that they could see the different features they needed to include. This was actually their idea and I was so proud of them for asking to see a picture for reference. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Emily and Juliette LOVE <a href="http://amzn.to/1OtQEnl" target="_blank">Spot It</a>, which is a fun game where you have to spot the object that is the same on each card. It is a fast paced game because you just put the card down and call out the match. Clara wants to play with her big sisters so I am teaching her how to play. For our version I just have Clara look at the card and find the match. Then, I go and we take turns until all the cards are finished.<br />

This was a simple open-ended art set up that actually turned into a name writing practice. I set out paper and paper strips with stickers and the new <a href="http://amzn.to/1XrUa8U" target="_blank">scented gel pens</a> that Clara received from Uncle Keith and Aunt Nicole for her birthday. Clara loves scented art supplies and has wanted to color with these nonstop since she opened them. She started drawing and then when I came to check on her she asked for help with her name. We picked different colors to practice her name in, so far she can write the C and the L, but then has trouble with the rest so since she is showing an interest in it I am going to continue working on this with her next week.</div>

Homemade Slime is something that Emily and Juliette LOVE to make and play with. We have made this homemade slime recipe with their cousin, for Emily's science themed birthday party and with Emily's Brownie Girl Scout Troop to earn the Home Scientist Badge. It is so easy to make and so much fun to play with. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was so excited when my friend Tracy, from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmW6hn9XhhrGjxvlYWI-puQ" target="_blank">Tracy & Co.</a> (be sure to check out her YouTube Channel!!) asked us if we would like to get together and that she was thinking of making some slime. I told her I had all the stuff and I knew that Clara and her daughter would have so much fun with it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tracy actually vlogged us <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY4-Pv85vpg&feature=youtu.be" target="_blank">making the slime</a> and the girls playing with it so you can watch us in action. <br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
You will need: glue, water, food coloring, borax, some measuring cups and spoons, a bowl or cup to mix the slime in and either spoons or popsicle sticks to mix with.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnZVNykwuTXleabSCduOlBC4c7Nb-q9iDjqJ5UxSiNZgZ9i3DV72sn_bUML-geJBQU-xcKGH4nFA9vFJqIG85cpi4Whv91a4Nn8pcc5vXQV6h2eUh15Q4mFmQQ__TzOugFPlLbt4TQh0E/s1600/IMG_3951.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnZVNykwuTXleabSCduOlBC4c7Nb-q9iDjqJ5UxSiNZgZ9i3DV72sn_bUML-geJBQU-xcKGH4nFA9vFJqIG85cpi4Whv91a4Nn8pcc5vXQV6h2eUh15Q4mFmQQ__TzOugFPlLbt4TQh0E/s400/IMG_3951.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First, I put 1 part glue (I used about 1/2 cup) in a cup for each girl. Then I added 1 part water (I used about 1/2 cup) and had them mix that together with their popsicle stick. Each girl picked a color that they wanted their slime and I added a few drops of food coloring to the cup of glue and water and let them mix it together a little bit more.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While the girls were mixing the glue and water together, I added 1/2 tsp of borax to 1 cup of water and we mixed it together until it was dissolved. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Finally, I added about 2 parts of the borax solution ( I used about 1/2 a cup) to the glue and water mixture and had the girls stir it together. Almost instantly you can see the slime forming and feel it sticking to the popsicle stick. At this point we just took the slime out of the cup and used our hands to mix it together well. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This recipe is very forgiving, if you have to much water just pour a little out and if it is not slimy enough just add a little bit more of the borax solution.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now for the fun part!!!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This slime will last for awhile as long as you keep it stored in a sealed ziplock bag or another airtight container. </div>

<b>Having Fun Learning</b></h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our week learning together in TOTSchool</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Clara is 36 months old</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week we had a lot of fun celebrating Clara's third birthday and most of our activities were planned around things she liked or wanted to do. Right now Clara really enjoys playing with her babies and other dolls, especially Emily and Juliette's American Girl Dolls. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgmE0WHltgBLsj67FFLoaTrsBCfhkcsUddrwct3z16Xty4zvn5a4Du0FT_9GtnHEtldo3OBGhv2kta8nHcQWoUmQWxezNd3v6FXpFkYeGBLYha0tN0SsKAP2kq3aLR5jbvKAWKsD4uwo/s1600/IMG_3854.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgmE0WHltgBLsj67FFLoaTrsBCfhkcsUddrwct3z16Xty4zvn5a4Du0FT_9GtnHEtldo3OBGhv2kta8nHcQWoUmQWxezNd3v6FXpFkYeGBLYha0tN0SsKAP2kq3aLR5jbvKAWKsD4uwo/s400/IMG_3854.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I really like giving lots of opportunities for Open Ended Art, as much as I love the finished project of structured crafts and art projects I know it is very important to let her just explore with different mediums. I set her up with paint, different brushes water and a large piece of paper and let her just paint. In the end we talked about the different colors she used and where they were on the paper.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXEbw7WJJFuL1EKmFzihSfRUB6rc-C5Ox1Qqf-gHVgD7Zgx6E8uRT9ejGPieUfk-3MM3uW55vInK30-iajIT_Fft8RNy-MbHHsmbnD_XQt7jgivuGpEfDhrpVlYFLih8Ms_ECsbOe6xSA/s1600/IMG_3817.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXEbw7WJJFuL1EKmFzihSfRUB6rc-C5Ox1Qqf-gHVgD7Zgx6E8uRT9ejGPieUfk-3MM3uW55vInK30-iajIT_Fft8RNy-MbHHsmbnD_XQt7jgivuGpEfDhrpVlYFLih8Ms_ECsbOe6xSA/s400/IMG_3817.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her most requested activity this week would definitely be our <a href="http://www.amommysadventures.com/2016/05/birthday-rice-sensory-bin.html" target="_blank">Birthday Themed Sensory Bin</a>, which she went to play with on her own many times throughout each day.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At our Mommy and Me Totschool Class with we learned about the color purple and triangles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
The kids worked together to mix their color pallets to make different colors. Here Clara and her friend are making green.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Finally she colored a "Color Wheel Flower" each petal was a different color, she had to match her markers to the color on the petal. </div>

I love finding new and exciting places to visit with the girls. The other day we visited <a href="https://www.nassaucountyny.gov/2909/Tackapausha-Museum-and-Preserve" target="_blank">Tackapausha Museum and Preserve</a> for the first time with some of our friends and we had such a nice afternoon there! There was enough to keep all the kids entertained for awhile and it was very inexpensive. I can't believe that it took us this long to visit it. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also really enjoyed exploring the exhibits within the museum. We learned about Life Cycles, Food Chains, Food Webs, Fossils, Dinosaurs, History of Long Island and so much more. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Another great part of the trip was the scavenger hunt that the museum has set up for visitors to work on. There were different pictures on a clip board that the girls had to look for within the exhibits. They really enjoyed this and were so excited when they found each object or animal. </div>

Clara was definitly most excited for the different animals that were in the museum. She kept going back to check out the fox and opossum, which were her favorite. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They also had a screech owl and bats!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Finally, outside of the museum there was a nice play space with a music area, nature checkers, digging and climbing areas as well as a fire pit that groups could reserve for camp fires. We also walked through one of the shorter trails to a pond were the girls LOVED watching the ducks, geese, swans and turtles. <br />

Clara celebrated her 3rd birthday yesterday and recently she has really enjoyed playing in our sensory bin. So, I thought is would be fun to surprise her and create a birthday themed sensory bin that she could explore this week for her birthday.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
C<b>lara's Cupcake Birthday Rice Sensory Bin</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaLboBBJtKhwJDnhZVY151CuyCbjBtRBOSedoLeMEfL8nwajJ2BMihn6IQGI5u1teP7X-KinWiZKPirn-NGl9ItMly4oFCW7937iRVlO-HqB24AHcYgyjGN6ECX4O-_DXrehE6mRE6yVU/s1600/BirthdayRiceSensoryBin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaLboBBJtKhwJDnhZVY151CuyCbjBtRBOSedoLeMEfL8nwajJ2BMihn6IQGI5u1teP7X-KinWiZKPirn-NGl9ItMly4oFCW7937iRVlO-HqB24AHcYgyjGN6ECX4O-_DXrehE6mRE6yVU/s320/BirthdayRiceSensoryBin.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I filled the bin with plain white rice, which is our go to sensory bin filler. Then I added in multi-colored pom poms, a pack of birthday candles, individual silicone cupcake holders (I found these a few years ago in the dollar spot in Target), and finally since she turned 3 some number 3 cookie cutters and foam threes. There are also an assortment of spoons and scoopers.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
She loved scooping, pouring, filling and decorating in her special birthday themed sensory bin.<br />
<br />
Another fun game the girls like to play with the sensory bins is finding all of one type of object. With this bin I hid all the number threes under the rice and Clara dug around to find them.<br />

Birthday Wishes is an amazing organization that plans birthday parties for children that are living in homeless shelters.</p><p>We have been baking cupcakes to donate for the parties for the past 6 months and the girls are always excited to help me make them and decoreate them. They also collect goody bags which they give out at the parties. I have been wanting to have the girls make them, but haven’t had a chance until now. Since we are not haveing a friends birthday party for Clara I thought this would be a great activity to do together and we were able to spend the money we would have spent on goody bags for her friends on these goody bags.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgH7CdKEPSsp5w-vNDzZcdtV-0SpMq76YHUTg_RloG283I5xsC5al-_RjLmTtXLYoHQddVofkE6vR_tXO7XMHFsO35B3wSrb39pZPwQBWdZjEmOB6Mmm3ADMuG7Ts9TQsK3zN3_c7zvRY/" target="_blank"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhliyCO9hFcVBOfqxrtLSLumvOaXMDJTe9NVXGYx2sOhyphenhyphenU4Kwc-ldYhcQmJ2IDv0t_UAGQKOB-cyekproQSop8ROWej3TWvADPdKvLwLhUhDjKvAjFB_i-ZwBbz2lYMNaZkTJpoJ_W3ZtE/"></a></div><p>We went to Walmart and Dollar Tree to pick up all the things we would need to fill the bags. The girls and I had so much fun visiting the <a href="https://www.brookhaven.org/Departments/Highway-Department/Wildlife-Ecology-Center/Animal-Preserve" target="_blank">Holtsville Ecology Center</a> today. We have been coming here since Emily was probably about 2 1/2 years old and always enjoy seeing and learning about the different animals. I have to admit, we probably haven’t visited in at least a year, so when I saw a friend post pictures of their recent trip on Facebook, I knew we had to visit during our Spring Break from school. It is about a 40 minute drive from our house, but it is totally worth it. The girls always have a great time checking out the animals and then there is also a playground and a picnic area, so you can really make a nice day trip out of it. Plus, since it is still an off season it was free to get in. (Although starting May 1st it is only $5.oo a car, which is totally worth it!!)</div>

Emily and Juliette really liked reading the information about each animal. They were very interested in their lifespan and how the different animals got here. The ecology center is a place for animals to live that can not be released back into the wild. The two bald eagles that live here have wing injuries and are unable to fly. We also found out that one of the foxes never learned to hunt and relies completely on humans to be fed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love that Emily and Juliette are at the point where they can read on their own and are actually looking to find out more information by reading the signs and plaques at the different places we go to.</div>

So far they have made pillows and blankets for a nursing home and helped clean up litter around the school. <br>Most of the hours are meant to be earned on their own. I really had no idea where to start, since most volunteer oportunities are for children that are older. I was very encouraged as I was looking on the internet for projects that we could do together to earn the service hours and have found a few local organizations that we have really enjoyed working with.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf82-Wmib0N3NIRRgwOzwUDIFHA398pZqBcTyFutK7jlvqKc9azaJmAqffUVD_DaWn5V55YyEbSUzQUNJDlbEuxad4LoumN-ew1P5WkSxxZeoAqyz2X6mbmMDvqvTA_X6_Ehgp9-igP-E/"></div><p><br>One of the organizations I found to work with is <a href="http://www.thebookfairies.org" target="_blank" title="The Book Faries">The Book Faries</a>. They are an organization which provides books to teachers and students in underprivliged areas. Emily and I were able to go to their warehouse and help sort the many boxes of book donations one Saturday afternoon. There were many teachers that came in to pick out books for their classroom libraries and it was so awesome to see them getting excited about the books they were able to take for free! It was also cute for me to see Emily finding books that we were sorting that we own or have borrowed from the library. She would say “ooh I loved this one” or “Mommy we have this one too!”</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1AOKAfDG_dkOSfK7NzvRHfAKmizlSqw1CH4yZjrwPLUb8TfSTkz32M08IY1MXV_FMJdoGxSR2kD5GHHNANNk0Ge-wNzWQ6wcCT3U1Iwuh2DezuKgos47odIFHRa3ItHA9RQ7kkhmfiNU/" alt="Bookmark Making" title="Bookmark Making "></div><p><br>I found out that when they have free book fairs for the children at these schools to pick out a book to owen they also give each child a bookmark. I thought this would be a great project for all of us to work on together. My sister was kind enough to provide us with lots of different scrappaper, punches and stickers from her huge collection of scrappbooking supplies and we went to work.</p><p>After we finished designing the bookmarks I laminated them and the girls helped me cut them all out. We placed the container on the windowsill and have been waiting for the seeds to sprout. We were all so excited when we checked on it and found this little green sprout!!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzC1KK_E4AO_IlU3mRhkkjdm_SnDgBBpR61o8JORL0qLS7NrwovTV-0F7C-0S2wR8jIrKHkNkiRFloW5YGrdlbkPkyjKM0GMzunCV4vb5mElGiFtrHpJdjK8FzApM870htd282dPE3GBE/" target="_blank"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWDyYAGis1BZ3sMKhhRIZeQunKM-aMfjihx15XVJWfNsizrzv5SlLBtilfGuwBgWWvWMMymSc6eksALVe7sLrqxLl_RKPx6qd82oHnToEHGWkEdlFngeL7vYA4zQJnxMTeLs0GcxO64rc/"></a></div><p>We can’t wait to watch it grow. In the meantime we will be working on lots of fun plant art and science projects and reading books all about gardens, seeds and planting.</p><p><strong>We have already really enjoyed these great books about plants and gardens:</strong></p><p><a href="http://amzn.to/1Sx5oDo" target="_blank">The Small Seed</a>, by Judith Nicholls ~ We are loving that this is a touch and feel book. It starts out with a small seed being planted and grows, roots a shoot and then a stem. Finallly, there is a beautiful sunflower. All done in a fun rhyiming text. Clara loves finding the touch and feel part on each page and I think the tactile interaction helps her retain the information better too.</p><p><a href="http://amzn.to/1Sx6xLr" target="_blank" title="The Surprise Garden">The Surprise Garden</a>, by Zoe Hall ~ This is a fun book that shares the journey of 3 children planting a garden that surprises them with all the wonderful food that grows from the plants. I really liked how it talks about the different parts of the plants that we eat. All of the girls have really enjoyed this book which is always nice. We also really enjoyed the collage like illustrations in this book.</p><p><a href="http://amzn.to/1rwK2jd" target="_blank" title="Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt">Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt</a>, by Kate Messner ~ I really love this book because it shows young readers what is going on not only Up in the Garden where the plants are sprouting and growing, but down in the dirt in the hidden world where the roots are growing and insects creating creating tunnels and burrows. This is the story of a garden over the course of a year. We really enjoyed looking at the illustrations and finding all the fun details on each page. At the end of our book was a quick refrence page that gave a few facts about the different animals that were introduced in the garden and explained that some are helpful and others are not. Again I liked that this books was fun for all the girls to read together.</p><p>What are some of your favorite planting themed books?</p><p>For more planting fun and activities be sure to check out some of the <a href="http://www.amommysadventures.com/search/label/planting" target="_blank" title="Plant and Garden Projects">plant and garden projects</a> we have done already!!!</p><p><strong><em>Follow our ADVENTURES on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/amommysadventures">Facebook</a>, <a href="http://pinterest.com/amomsadventures/boards/">Pinterest</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/kme0310">Twitter!</a></em></strong></p>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17893829005402169615noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-857185551907456876.post-77053472876410003782016-04-25T14:14:00.002-04:002016-04-25T20:54:05.076-04:00Muffin Tin Monday Revisited<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It has been a LOOOONNNGGG time since we have had a Muffin Tin Monday meal in our house. My older girls used to love them and I was always amazed at how much better they ate when they had a meal in one of our many different types of Muffin Tins. Recently, I was talking to my sister in law about how to get our girls to eat a little better and remembered Muffin Tin Meals. After talking she tried it with her girls and actually texted me a picture of my nieces muffin tins, then I knew I had to start this up again with Clara. Of course the first one we did she said she did not want and that she does not eat muffin tins. This time I just put together her lunch and placed the Muffin Tin infront of her. She loved it and ate every last bit!! I am so excited about bringing Muffin Tin Monday back into our routine and am looking forward to sharing our different meals here.</div>

This year for Emily’s birthday party she decided she wanted to Tie Dye shirts with her friends at her birthday party. My first thought was, that would be great if your birthday was in the summer and not the winter. How was I going to be able to have kids Tie Dy inside my house. Then I remembered seeing a way to tie dye shirts with Sharpie Markers on pinterest. After looking it up and testing it out a few times I decided that this was something we could definitly do and it turned out to be a lot of fun and not very messy either!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRy41dp9Uf1qp_VIqfgNCL5W5RcltM8wfP5FKPQLdT4zfrI8OPaHCl_yCq1vI0dQzku7q4UEY14vTMU0omfRXZwh3RIZ97TsmFv9WoRrKl-2AVoaS3Ish4MoQ2F9UBo_f7jIfmvXFZ5Ic/s1600/IMG_3186.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRy41dp9Uf1qp_VIqfgNCL5W5RcltM8wfP5FKPQLdT4zfrI8OPaHCl_yCq1vI0dQzku7q4UEY14vTMU0omfRXZwh3RIZ97TsmFv9WoRrKl-2AVoaS3Ish4MoQ2F9UBo_f7jIfmvXFZ5Ic/s320/IMG_3186.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I set up our dinnning room table with a tray for each girl to work on. In the center were all the Permanent Markers and rubber bands we had for the girls to use.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="file:////Users/michellemarckesano/Library/Containers/com.blogo.Blogo/Data/Library/Caches/com.blogo.Blogo/IMG_3216.JPG" target="_blank"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd8bdMLLf_rbjwBtzn9Up9hKfu0Wz5qRQ0KPmVLedxLt4LHXKR3UhGo2l1Zebm2dhZ_pe6-nCUEvVwb9ydp3FCzFEY-2iNQMUdXjbXF3xnPAJ703gvgTHJubj6uTLtL5O69n4ZNLcntLU/" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I gave each girl a plain white t-shirt and showed them how to roll and tie up their shirt with the rubber bands. Then they got to work coloring the different sections in with the permanent markers.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When the finished coloring, while they were still tied with the rubber bands I sprayed them I sprayed them with rubbing alcohol enough to saturate them, but not to completly soak them. The rubbing alchohol makes the permanent markers ink run and spread out over the material. It is really cool to watch the colors spread and blend together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGVoWmhhyphenhyphenFBGZwrFTdqyqAMMzrmHh6bszwqZAqjoLvkMdsB0X_HpnqE59uSlGieRutE-tokY62DQbDDBugvhd1l9gXeNxWqdQ0jGxZqNL3Xqr4Q6NLuzig7TME-o6k3rtiM6xEWgeimC8/s1600/IMG_3227.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGVoWmhhyphenhyphenFBGZwrFTdqyqAMMzrmHh6bszwqZAqjoLvkMdsB0X_HpnqE59uSlGieRutE-tokY62DQbDDBugvhd1l9gXeNxWqdQ0jGxZqNL3Xqr4Q6NLuzig7TME-o6k3rtiM6xEWgeimC8/s320/IMG_3227.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After about 5 minutes the girls took off their rubber bands and I hung the shirts up to dry. Once they were dry they should go into the dryer for about 5-10 minutes to set the ink or be ironed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had made Emily a shirt to wear on the day of her party and my husband came up with the idea to have each of her friends sign the back of her shirt. It is a fun keepsake from her birthday party. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While they were taking turns signing her shirt I gave each girl a rainbow scratch door hanger for them to work on. They really had a good time with this activity and it lasted a lot longer than I anitcipated.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5w_qD_9_RyPahbmZY6jaEFNLCLmz_WgShTfgX30Giz2cfjpQquPxOBAY8tG9ReiMmEp4-Vf0_xuJ5ks-BPPiWJbexSX0FqgHtLDKV8CFK72eH6oEDxJdfEctcc-6VIEd-4I7og5WDDrc/s1600/photo.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5w_qD_9_RyPahbmZY6jaEFNLCLmz_WgShTfgX30Giz2cfjpQquPxOBAY8tG9ReiMmEp4-Vf0_xuJ5ks-BPPiWJbexSX0FqgHtLDKV8CFK72eH6oEDxJdfEctcc-6VIEd-4I7og5WDDrc/s320/photo.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had fun making these tie dye t-shirt cookies for the girls to have with the cake and I also indivitually wrapped one for each girl to put in their goody bags.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi64DOWx9tQioDvn5Vwa8JOzkd6VYlKT8KgU3SkgPbxHsDPlowFshFpj6EIgDalGfXDYJU3TagQMcQvBQqUGUQumOptj61TwM0X3G73L4ZnV1UL-XeHQN6xPksc_37w2A0yHSxGxRUhQMw/s1600/photo.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi64DOWx9tQioDvn5Vwa8JOzkd6VYlKT8KgU3SkgPbxHsDPlowFshFpj6EIgDalGfXDYJU3TagQMcQvBQqUGUQumOptj61TwM0X3G73L4ZnV1UL-XeHQN6xPksc_37w2A0yHSxGxRUhQMw/s320/photo.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The part that I loved the most about Emily’s birthday party is that she decided that instead of asking for presents for her birthday she asked each girl to bring a pair of pajamas for her to donate to Jake’s Jammies. This is a charity that provides a comfy pair of pajamas for children that are in the hospital. When the lady came to collect all the pajamas that Emily collected I was so proud of her. I started to tear up as she told me how worried she was that there wasn’t going to be that many pajamas and how it made her birthday so special when she saw our coffee table overflowing with pajamas that she knew were going to make children in the hospital SO happy and comfy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We always like to do a photo booth at the girls party so that we can get pictures of the girls with their guests. I was hoping to find a nice tie dye table cloth, however there really wasn’t that much available. My husband did find really cool tie dye print Duct tape which we used for a picture frame photo prop. With the pictures that I took I turn each one into a photo card and send the personalized card as the thank you for coming to the party.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love these books because they combine fiction with non-fiction to create a fun story that children can actually learn from. For this month’s Wild West theme she read <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0679883398/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0679883398&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20&linkId=QUBSDAU4SZTD4XSO">Ghost Town at Sundown (Magic Tree House)</a>. In this book the Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie back to a ghost town in the Wild West around the 1880’s. They meet a mustang herder named Slim and also some rattlesnakes, horse thieves, a lost pony, and even a ghost. </p> <p align="center">Both Emily and Juliette had fun decorating their own Cow Girl Boot to go along with this book and the Wild West theme. </p> <p align="center"><img title="Decorating Cow Girl Boots" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="392" alt="Decorating Cow Girl Boots" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-l_HDQx6oXlo/VCn1rKPsi5I/AAAAAAAAH_Q/ycufnRzHJvo/IMG_1000_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="320" border="0"></p> <p align="center"><img title="Decorating Cow Girl Boots" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="382" alt="Decorating Cow Girl Boots" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-kTdbAO9dBcE/VCn1r3HWzKI/AAAAAAAAH_Y/o88FNUHABzw/IMG_0999_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="320" border="0"></p> <p align="center">I found a great <a href="https://www.tsl.texas.gov/sites/default/files/public/tslac/ld/projects/trc/2002/manual/images/preschool/boot.jpg" target="_blank">Cowboy Boot Template</a> that the girls used as an outline. I Grow Up: What Will I Be When I Grow Up? ~ Poppins Book Nook<p align="center">When I was little I loved to read all of the different Little Critter Books. I still remember sitting outside showing my Grandma how I could read the books all by myself. So as soon as I saw the theme for this month’s <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PoppinsBookNook" target="_blank">Poppins Book Nook</a> I knew that we would read <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0375826327/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0375826327&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20&linkId=VMS5IOMM4CKROKQQ">When I Grow Up (Little Critter) </a>. Emily and Juliette love hearing about all the different jobs that Little Critter’s sister wants to have and I love the message that you can be anything you want to be.</p> <p align="center">This opened up the discusion about “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and that is always a fun thing to talk about with little kids!</p> <p align="center">Emily wants to be an Art Teacher, An Ear Piercing Girl and the Tooth Fairy (yes you read that correctly, I guess in reality one day there is a possibility that she will achieve that goal one day!)</p> <p align="center">Juliette want to be “a builder like Daddy!”</p> <p align="center"> </p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-QPZ5Da8LVLs/VCoAYVAdpdI/AAAAAAAAH_4/4YqlLbqVPoU/s1600-h/PoppinsBookNookmainimage201420152.jpg"><img Your Window: The Great Outdoors ~ Poppins Book Nook<p align="center">This month the girls and I had fun exploring nature with the Poppins Book Nook’s “The Great Outdoors” theme. After reading <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/076365549X/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=076365549X&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20&linkId=FD6JQ7M7MW65Q2GZ">Outside Your Window: A First Book of Nature</a><img style="margin: 0px; border-top-style: none! important; border-right-style: none! important; border-left-style: none! important; border-bottom-style: none! important" height="1" alt="" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=amomsadv-20&l=as2&o=1&a=076365549X" width="1" border="0"> we were inspired to see all the different things we could in nature. I loved seeing the girls get excited about a different bug they found while playing in the yard or pointing out pretty flowers on our walk to school!</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/076365549X/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=076365549X&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20&linkId=FD6JQ7M7MW65Q2GZ"><img src="http://ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=076365549X&Format=_SL250_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=amomsadv-20" border="0"></a><img style="margin: 0px; border-top-style: none! important; border-right-style: none! important; border-left-style: none! important; border-bottom-style: none! important" height="1" alt="" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=amomsadv-20&l=as2&o=1&a=076365549X" width="1" border="0"></p> <p align="center"> Since we have been very busy with the end of the school year all we really had time for was observing nature and talking about the fun and interesting things that we noticed around our yard and in our neighborhood. We are really looking forward to seeing more of the great outdoors this summer! <p align="center"><img class="image-stretch-horizontal frontImage" id="imgBlkFront" style="left: 0px; max-width: 260px; The girls were amused by how the rabbit kept giving the bear the less desirable part of the plants.</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-e0Pc73kRQXw/U5XyRN41sqI/AAAAAAAAH9E/e-6e4C1hMJc/s1600-h/IMG_41772.jpg"><img title="IMG_4177" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="269" alt="IMG_4177" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-jYS9UjGrOBY/U5XyR26aKmI/AAAAAAAAH9M/1lqzWDs5ebc/IMG_4177_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="352" border="0"></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ljjf2zMEhmU/U5XySnE7SVI/AAAAAAAAH9U/J8_lYsPgV3o/s1600-h/IMG_41522.jpg"><img title="IMG_4152" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="277" alt="IMG_4152" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-9furs1LvPQA/U5XyUJ508jI/AAAAAAAAH9c/yFeqwsECVFc/IMG_4152_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="213" border="0"></a> <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-I8VteHyGbcU/U5XyVFnTlvI/AAAAAAAAH9k/HBtNgG4rmT0/s1600-h/IMG_41652.jpg"><img title="IMG_4165" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="269" alt="IMG_4165" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sLcMCIsFdac/U5XyV6QNU_I/AAAAAAAAH9o/ufGEyCbH8fU/IMG_4165_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="352" border="0"></a> </p> <p align="center">After reading this book we were busy planting our own garden and talking about the different parts of the plants that we eat. Sensory Bin Challenge<p align="center">My girls love sensory play and our Rice Bin has been one of their favorites since they were pretty young. I have set up all different <a href="http://www.amommysadventures.com/search/label/Sensory%20Tub" target="_blank">themed sensory bins</a> with things that I thought the girls would find fun. They always seem to enjoy scooping and pouring the rice from one container to the next. When I found out about this child led Rice Sensory Bin Challenge I couldn’t wait to participate. The awesome part about this challenge is that it is a child led play project. All I did was fill one of our Plastic Storage Bins with some plain white rice and the rest was up to Juliette!</p> <p align="center">Here is what Juliette came up with:</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-LcPzXBxb53w/U2BX80PKhCI/AAAAAAAAH7w/H36PltuCt7M/s1600-h/IMG_3690%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="Rice Sensory Bin" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="319" alt="Rice Sensory Bin" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-sn-ktaJlI8U/U2BX9oIuxvI/AAAAAAAAH74/0eKRUagddQA/IMG_3690_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" border="0"></a> She decided to add some of our <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00160HTYI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00160HTYI&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20">Play-Doh toys</a> to her Rice Bin. This included, plates, a spoon and fork, ice cream cones, an ice cream dish, a whisk, candles and a paint palate. </p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Q8twX5B2tqc/U2BX-LWXOgI/AAAAAAAAH8A/M6if01P8Bw4/s1600-h/IMG_3685%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="Rice Sensory Bin" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="317" alt="Rice Sensory Bin" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-m0z5J4AE5tE/U2BX-j-sGVI/AAAAAAAAH8I/DMzBZ7Bx7ok/IMG_3685_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="350" border="0"></a></p> <p align="center">She spend lots of time scooping and pouring the rice from one cup to the next.</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-MYNruyI7QI0/U2BX_Ld5MnI/AAAAAAAAH8Q/SsHTzyNRAmU/s1600-h/IMG_3688%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="Rice Sensory Bin " style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="318" alt="Rice Sensory Bin " src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ZlVi2pMst1w/U2BX_3mvTQI/AAAAAAAAH8Y/nOXnQT6Vyd4/IMG_3688_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="328" border="0"></a></p> <p align="center"> She also had fun making ice cream sundaes and singing “Happy Birthday!’</p> <p align="center">After awhile she came up with a Hide and Seek game for us to play. She would hide one of the pieces under the rice and I had to find it. Then I hid one of the pieces and she had to find it. </p> <p align="center">I loved seeing and listening to her as she played with the rice. She loved that she was in control of this activity, by picking everything out it was everything that she wanted and I loved that about this project!</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-TbtHmkY5KDM/U2BYAXG0IdI/AAAAAAAAH8g/N0nKEyaQRRU/s1600-h/Rice%252520Sensory%252520Bin%252520Challenge%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="Rice Sensory Bin Challenge" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="277" alt="Rice Sensory Bin Challenge" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-jPxViwNzg8U/U2BYBceIGuI/AAAAAAAAH8o/d2qAtvAyv3E/Rice%252520Sensory%252520Bin%252520Challenge_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="277" border="0"></a> </p> <p>For more great <strong>Rice Sensory Bin Activities</strong> check out these awesome blogs. We enjoyed reading the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0794421806/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0794421806&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20">Fisher-Price Little People Lift-the-Flap Cars, Trucks, Planes and Trains.</a> Emily read the book to Juliette and they both have fun looking under the flaps to see different pictures. Since this was an easy book for Emily to read she also read <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0679890637/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0679890637&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20">Magic Tree House: Tonight on the Titanic.</a> She is currently working her way through the Magic Tree House series and was so excited to be up to this book and it fit in perfectly with our Transportation theme this month!</p> <p align="center">For our project the girls sorted different types of Air, Land and Water transportation which we turned into a little art project to make it a little more fun. </p> <p align="center"><img title="IMG_3673" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="419" alt="IMG_3673" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-olh7FUyZyqM/U12yIf1mLlI/AAAAAAAAH6Y/kRznexbAOu8/IMG_3673_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="320" border="0">This was nice and easy. We used green and blue construction paper to make the sky, land and water. </p> <p align="center"><img title="IMG_3674" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: computer and then had the girls cut them out and glue it onto the construction paper in the correct spot. </p> <p align="center"><img title="Transportation Sort" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: Easter Egg Sensory Bin<p align="center">This Easter sensory bin is such a simple idea, yet it has provided HOURS of fun for all three of my girls. As I have mentioned before we have a HUGE collection of plastic Easter Eggs and I am always looking for new and different ways to use them. This sensory bin was a spur of the moment attempt to keep Clara (11 months old) occupied while we decorated the house for Easter.<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-FasMmX8OsjY/U0tI6VINMHI/AAAAAAAAH5Q/U-qly3Ji8no/s1600-h/IMG_3028%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_3028" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="269" alt="IMG_3028" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ftOFpVnDi9g/U0tI7CT0VrI/AAAAAAAAH5Y/DzVsXVUbcXk/IMG_3028_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="352" border="0"></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-A5Txsf9JLBU/U0tI7rPaGLI/AAAAAAAAH5g/0fZ77THtBUc/s1600-h/IMG_3032%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_3032" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="269" alt="IMG_3032" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-AsGSYBPXsog/U0tI8HLTVxI/AAAAAAAAH5o/RDgv7xLUFWI/IMG_3032_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="352" border="0"></a> I filled our sensory bin, which is just a large under the bed storage bin that I picked up at A.C. Moore, with all of our plastic Easter Eggs and the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SRBPNC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004SRBPNC&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20">Bunny Egg Dipper Tongs</a> that we use when we color Easter Eggs. (I was excited that they get to use that more than once during the season too!) Later I added an Egg Carton that they enjoyed filling up with eggs. </p> <p align="center">Since there are a variety of sizes of eggs Juliette especially liked putting the little egg in the medium egg inside the large egg and surprising Emily with it. <br>I thought it was pretty amazing that this bin kept a 7 year old, 4 year old and 11 month old busy and playing with each other. These pictures make me smile every time I see them!</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Pm5rEGEayGg/U0tI88tYyYI/AAAAAAAAH5w/vB-i0dEkL_M/s1600-h/IMG_3199%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_3199" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="269" alt="IMG_3199" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-nT6IyFV-TeY/U0tI9muRdPI/AAAAAAAAH54/nfDcFsGhvK0/IMG_3199_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="352" border="0"></a></p> <p align="center">After a few days Clara discovered that is is also a lot of fun to climb into the sensory bin of eggs!! </p> <p align="center">Check out some of our other <a href="http://www.amommysadventures.com/search/label/Sensory%20Tub" target="_blank">SENSORY FUN</a> activities.</p> <h6 align="center"><font size="4">Follow our ADVENTURES on </font><a href="https://www.facebook.com/amommysadventures"><font size="4">Facebook</font></a><font size="4">, </font><a href="http://pinterest.com/amomsadventures/boards/"><font size="4">Pinterest</font></a><font size="4"> and </font><a href="https://twitter.com/kme0310"><font size="4">Twitter!</font></a></h6> Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17893829005402169615noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-857185551907456876.post-79321704172644835962014-04-14T06:10:00.000-04:002014-04-14T06:10:00.111-04:00Hopping Clothespin Bunny Puppet Craft For Easter<p align="center">I just have to say I think this Hopping Clothespin Bunny Puppet is one of my favorite bunny craft projects ever and is the perfect project to get ready for Easter!! I host a toddler/preschool art group at my house once a week and I was browsing <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/amomsadventures" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> looking for some ideas. I was planning on doing some Easter Bunny themed projects and then I found this adorable <a href="http://de-tout-et-de-rien-caroline.blogspot.com/2012/02/jcraque-pour-toi-mon-coco.html" target="_blank">Hatching Egg Craft</a> and the inspiration for this project. I thought if I attached the bunny on to the clothes pin it would move up and down like it was hopping. I made a quick sample and it worked perfectly, both Emily and Juliette thought it was the cutest thing ever and I couldn’t wait for the girls to make their own!</p> <p align="center"><img title="Hopping Bunny Craft" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="371" alt="Hopping Bunny Craft" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-dq0_IDbOC-4/U0tEiU1IupI/AAAAAAAAH4M/Sb-tL4udF0o/Hopping%252520Bunny%252520Craft_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="371" border="0"> To make this project we used a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003GQELVY/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003GQELVY&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20">Clothespin</a> , 4 <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009XTX24/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0009XTX24&linkCode=as2&tag=amomsadv-20">Jumbo Craft Sticks</a> , card stock, wiggly eyes, pom poms, markers, craft foam, green construction paper, glue and a hot glue gun.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-2-_YaKVC038/U0tEjMeztII/AAAAAAAAH4U/_hRsB57zhos/s1600-h/IMG_3064%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_3064" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="414" alt="IMG_3064" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-tYHa_kl03Zg/U0tEju-MFwI/AAAAAAAAH4c/afp4xyAbKWY/IMG_3064_thumb%25255B24%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="321" border="0"></a></p> <p align="center">First I cut out a bunny shape for each of the girls to decorate. Juliette decided to color the ears and draw the face with markers. She also used various other craft supplies to decorate it. She used a cotton ball for the tail, wiggly eyes and craft foam for the teeth and nose. She also cut out a carrot from scraps of construction paper. I loved just watching to see what she created.</p> <p align="center">Once they were finished with the bunnies, they cut fringe on a strip of green construction paper to use as the grass.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-BDRq9U_Lw34/U0tEkf-r3kI/AAAAAAAAH4k/J1LvbJv32vs/s1600-h/IMG_3133%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="Hopping Bunny Craft" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="284" alt="Hopping Bunny Craft" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-yCXnVFM0S_g/U0tElcN39CI/AAAAAAAAH4s/Qjwj0MS_65M/IMG_3133_thumb%25255B17%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="375" border="0"></a></p> <p align="center">Finally I used hot glue to put everything together. I glued two of the jumbo craft sticks together to make one longer craft stick. I did this 2 times so that I had one for the top and one for the bottom. Then I hot glued these onto the clothespin as you can see in the picture above. Next, I glued the grass onto the bottom craft stick being careful not to let it stick to the top one. Then I glued the bunny onto the top craft stick making sure that it didn’t touch the grass. Finally I trimmed the top craft stick with a scissor so that it ended with the bunny. <img title="Hopping Bunny Craft" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="295" alt="Hopping Bunny Craft" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-gX-NXEC-Igc/U0tEl4_-MlI/AAAAAAAAH40/sjGUSdoefrU/IMG_3134_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="409" border="0"> We found that the hot glue holds everything together much better and I like that it dries so quickly. They were able to play with their bunny crafts right away!</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--U2W4LzQ1S4/U0tEmQnoveI/AAAAAAAAH48/RIRlTNUIzng/s1600-h/IMG_3066%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="Hopping Bunny Craft" style="border-top-width: 0px; display: block; border-left-width: 0px; float: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-right-width: 0px" height="419" alt="Hopping Bunny Craft" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-snVweCckQvY/U0tEmwAqZvI/AAAAAAAAH5E/-i-FkXu2Iu4/IMG_3066_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="320" border="0"></a> Juliette was so excited to test out her hopping bunny puppet and she was able to entertain Clara with it for quiet a while!! </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p align="center">Also check out our cute <a href="http://www.amommysadventures.com/2009/04/bunny-handprint-napkin-rings.html" target="_blank">Hand Print Bunny Napkin Rings</a></p> <p align="center"><font size="5">Follow our ADVENTURES on </font><a href="https://www.facebook.com/amommysadventures"><font size="5">Facebook</font></a><font size="5">, </font><a href="http://pinterest.com/amomsadventures/boards/"><font size="5">Pinterest</font></a><font size="5"> and </font><a href="https://twitter.com/kme0310"><font size="5">Twitter!</font></a></p> <p align="center"><font size="5"></font></p> Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17893829005402169615noreply@blogger.com2
