stART ~ Alice in Wonderland

A Story + Art = A Great stART!

Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our book and art project and maybe even share your own too! For an explanation of stART click here.

We read Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland, retold Jon Scieszka. This version of the story was great for Emily because it was much shorter and the illustrations were bright and exciting. After we read the book we went to the Nassau County Museum of Art , Mini Art Museum for Children where they had the artist Max Hergenrother’s pen and ink illustrations of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Emily looking at the artwork.

The Pen and Ink drawings...this was our favorite!

We also liked this miniature room that had the BIG Alice in it.

Outside Emily was able to draw on the Mad Hatters table, play croquet and a giant chess game.

The exhibit was cute and I loved that the drawings were at her level. We are looking forward to the next exhibit!

  2. It's so neat that you can take Emily to an Art Museum. I have to admit that I am not a big fan of Alice in Wonderland, but maybe I should bite a bullet and read it in its original language. I only read Russian translation as a child. I will try to do a StArt post this week too.

  3. What a wonderful exhibit, I bet she felt like she was Alice! I have always liked Alice in Wonderland because Alice is my middle name :). I read the book as an adult a few years ago and it had me laughing out loud.

  4. OH!! this is wonderful!! we are HUGE alice in wonderland fans! wish we could also visit that museum!!! We have a huge collection of alice books and our favorite is the POP-UP version by Robert Sabuda! its not really meant for little hands (a bit delicate) ... but I keep it on a high shelf and bring it down as a special treat!... we had an alice tea party for mama's day!
