stART ~ Waiting for Wings

Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too. All I ask is that you link back to A Mommy’s Adventures so that everyone can see all the other great projects that everyone shares too! The linky will be open all week.

I added a stART tab in my navigation bar to make it easier to search for past stART projects. Be sure to check it out!! All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.

This week we read Waiting for Wings, another amazing book written by Lois Ehlert.  Emily loved the small book that is inside this large book.  It was fun to turn the different sized pages as we read about the lifecycle of a butterfly through a fun to read rhyming text.  We especially enjoyed the last page with labeled pictures of the different types of butterflies.

For our project we decided to make coffee filter butterflies inspired by the last page of the book.  Emily and I looked at and talked about the colors on each butterfly and then used those colors to make a similar looking coffee filter butterfly.  We both had so much fun working on these projects side by side!!

Emily colored on the coffee filter with markers.

I loved the design that she made inspired by the picture in the book.

She sprayed the coffee filter with water and watched the colors spread out and blend together.

While we waited for them to dry Emily colored a clothes pin for the body.

Hand Print Butterfly

Cute Little Hands Make a Cute Little Butterfly!

Emily loves the butterfly at the end of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, written by Eric Carle, so today we made a Hand Print Butterfly.

First, I put yellow, magenta and white paint on the lid of a take out container large enough for Emily's hand. (I like using these lids instead of paper plates because they are reusable and we have a large collection of them.) Emily blended the colors with a Popsicle stick.

Next, Emily put her hand in the paint and made a print on the white paper. I helped her position them.

After we had two prints next to each other we waited for them to dry.

Emily glued on a foam piece for the body, two googly eyes and a pipe cleaner for the antenna

This is how we waited for the paint to dry!!
Emily had fun using the rest of the paint to finger/hand print on a large piece of packing paper I had saved from a recent package we received!
