Valentine’s Day Cards

Love is in the air and we had so much fun making these cards for the girls to pass out to their friends at school!

IMG_6542When I saw these “I Love You to Pieces” valentines  I immediately thought of Juliette.  She loves cutting and is always creating a little scrap pile of cut pieces for no apparent reason.  This was perfect to put those cuttings to use for a real project.  I gave her pieces of pink, purple and red construction paper and had her make confetti out of it.  Then she glued the pieces on to the hearts like they were sparkles.  She had a blast!!

IMG_6544 I picked up these cute pencils for Emily to hand out, but wanted something else to go with them.  These printable mazes were so cute and the perfect way for her to include a sweet massage and her name.

This week Emily read Love Bugs, by David Carter at school.  We have enjoyed some of his other pop-up books together and this one was just as cute.  The intricate pop-up pages really captivate the girls’ attention and the rhyming text is fun to read.  Although it is only 5 pages long it is a fun book to enjoy together for Valentines Day.

Emily made this cute “Love Bug” to go along with the story.

IMG_1874To make the love bug she colored in the face and used a heart shaped rubber stamp to make spots on the body.   Then she glued the pieces together.  The body is a large heart made out of construction paper.  The legs and antennas are black construction paper strips and they used heart punches on the cheeks, feet and antenna.  Her favorite part was putting spots on the love bug with the heart shaped rubber stamps!

imageA few years ago we also made these cute Love Bug Valentines to give out to her friends.   I thought of it as soon as I saw this book :0)

This week we read Who Wants a Valentine? , by Linda Lowery and Richard Keep.  This is a simple rhyming story about a little boy who does not want to be a part of all the Valentine’s festivities, until someone changes his mind.  This story is fun to read and has great cut paper illustrations.

This week Emily did her art project with Aunt Christina.  She made a cute Heart Wreath that I thought went perfectly with this book!

IMG_7395

To make the wreath they cut out pink hearts from construction paper.  Aunt Christina helped Emily right some Valentine’s Day words on the hearts.  Finally they glued them together to make a wreath.

Heart People

Last year we made a cute “Little Miss Valentine” which motivated this years heart person.  Instead of accordion paper arms and legs we used pipe cleaners and beads, for a great fine motor skill art project.

IMG_7397

To make these I cut out a large heart out of pink foam and 4 smaller hearts from pink, white and red foam.IMG_7342 Emily used markers to decorate the heart.  Then I used a hole puncher to make holes for the arms and legs.  Emily picked out what color pipe cleaner she wanted for the arms and legs.  We used a half a pipe cleaner for each arm and leg.  Once the pipe cleaners were attached she was able to use whichever beads she wanted to decorate the arms and legs.   Emily picked which color smaller hearts she wanted for the hands and feet and I helped her attach them, by twisting the pipe cleaner through the hole in the smaller hearts.  Finally, Emily glued on wiggly eyes and drew a nose and mouth.

She was very proud of her heart person and could not wait to show it to Daddy when he got home from work!

Love Bugs

When I saw this craft  on the PreKinders website I knew we had to make it!  Emily loves her little Love Bug.  Her favorite part is the movable wings.

IMG_1716

I am planning on using these for some very special Valentine’s Day cards this year.

IMG_1681

Emily used our new heart punch to make the little purple hearts for the wings.  After a couple she told me I could help too :0)

 IMG_1680

I traced a large circle and a smaller circle onto a piece of red construction paper and another large circle onto a piece of pink construction paper.  Emily cut them all out all by herself!!

IMG_1682

Emily glued the two red circles together to make the body of the bug.

IMG_1683

Next she glued on the wiggly eyes.IMG_1684

IMG_1685I cut the pink circle in half and punched a whole through the top of the two pieces and the center of the body.  Emily put the brad through the holes to attach the wings.  IMG_1686Finally Emily glued the little purple hearts onto the wings of the bug.

I wrote “I LOVE YOU” and the date on the middle.

Little Miss Valentine

This cute little “Heart Girl” as Emily called her was a quick and cute craft with a fun fine motor twist!

IMG_1677

I cut out a large heart for the body, two small hearts for hands, 2 half hearts for feet and 4 strips of construction paper for arms and legs.

IMG_1668

First, Emily drew a face on the heart with a marker.

(I was going to have her use wiggly eyes, however her face came out SO good we thought it would be best to save them for another project!)

 IMG_1670

She folded the strips of paper for the arms and legs into accordions, and yes she did them all without asking for help, I was totally shocked!

Emily enjoys helping me fold towels and the napkins to help set the table for dinner so I thought she would like this, but I had no idea how much she would like it.

IMG_1672

She glued the arms and legs onto the heart  and  then…

IMG_1676…added the hands and feet.

**Don’t you love all her jewels, I love that she wants to play dress up now it just looks to cute :0)

stART ~ Pooh Loves You

Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too! The linky will be open all week.

This week we read Pooh Loves You, by FranPosner. This is a cute rhyming story featuring Winnie the Pooh and the things that he loves.

I though it would be fun to make a collage of the things that Emily loves to go along with the story. Emily was happy to tell me all of the things that she loves. I thought it was cute that some of them were the same as Winnie the Pooh’s!!

Emily’s Love Collage

After reading the story I asked Emily what she loved, I wrote them down and then we searched for pictures of them on the computer. I also asked her what color paper she wanted. She said “Green because I love Green!”

IMG_1498

I printed the sheet out and had Emily cut each picture out.

IMG_1501

Next, she glued on a heart doilie and the pictures she cut out

IMG_1502

I gave her some heart stickers to decorate it with too.

IMG_1504

When she was all finished I wrote Emily Loves…. on the doilie and labeled each picture.

Valentine’s Day Sensory Tub

PomPoms and Glittery Sensory Fun!!

Emily loves her rice sensory tub.  Usually we only have rice and some shovels and buckets in it, but for Valentine’s Day I added pink, white, red and purple pom poms in a variety of sizes.  I also added some pink, silver and red sequins.   I am thinking about adding some small foam hearts too!

IMG_1426

Why use a sensory tub?  At first I thought this same thing, but decided to give it a try.  Emily loved it from the second her little fingers touched all those little pieces of rice.  For Emily if found our sensory tub  great for practicing, scooping, pouring, sifting all while having a lot of fun.  There are also many other benefits too.  Here is a great recourse about sensory tables or tubs.

Do you use a sensory tub at your house??

If you do what do you usually put in yours??
