Emily the Bunny

This year Emily wanted to be a Bunny Rabbit, I love bunnies so I was thrilled.  Here is my cute little bunny rabbit.

This costume was fun and easy to make.  She wore white pants, shirt and shoes.  I made a large pom pom and sewed it to the back of her shirt.  We had the bunny ears from Easter I just added the pink foam in the middle and my mom sewed her a felt play food carrot (you can check out all her other felt play food creations in our Yummy Felts etsy store!)  which we added a ribbon to so she could wear it as a necklace while trick or treating.

Juliette the Candy Corn

            When I was going through boxes of Halloween decorations I found Emily’s Candy Corn Costume and realized it would fit Juliette this year.  I loved this costume so much I was so glad that Juliette would be able to wear it.  She wouldn’t wear the hat, but I still think she was the cutest little candy corn.

Trick or Treating with Friends

Emily and Juliette had fun spending the afternoon trick or treating with their friends.  The three older girls took turns ringing the door bells.  I loved watching them holding each others hands while walking!

  Juliette LOVED Halloween

This was the first year that Juliette could really participate in Halloween and she loved everything about it.  She ran from house to house.  And when she was at the doors waiting she pushed herself right up to the front of the line holding her own bucket filled with candy.

We were also able to spend Halloween with our Family.  Juliette is with her God-Mother and Emily is with her God-Mother.

I can’t wait until next year when cousin Brianna will be joining the girls running from house to house trick or treating!!

Candy Corn Math ~ Patterns

When I first saw the giant bag of Candy Corn Harvest Mix  sorting the bag and making patterns are actually the first things that came to my mind.  So I gave Emily three empty apple sauce cups and had her sort the candy corn.  Then we had fun working on creating all different patterns with our candy corn.

We worked on ABA and ABBA patterns this time.  After I made a few Emily decided that she would make some for me to try.  It was fun taking turns and trying out different patterns with our candy corn.  Of course we had fun eating a few pieces once we were all finished too :0)

stART ~ Minerva Louise on Halloween

This week we read Minerva Louise on Halloween, by Janet Morgan Stoeke.  This is the first Minerva Louise book that we have read and I am looking forward to checking out some of the other ones.  The story is written from the silly chicken, Minerva Louise’s point of view.  She gets things confused thinking that the spider webs are curtains, the trick or treaters are farmers and so on.  In the end Minerva Louise is very excited to get some corn in her feed basket (aka, trick or treat bag) like the other kids so she goes to the door trick or treating and gets some candy corn, which she tastes for the first time and loves.

Although Emily did not realize how silly Minerva Louise was at first, after each page  I asked her a question about what Minerva Louise thought or did and then I would say “That silly Minerva Louise!”  Emily liked this and then realized how confused and silly the chicken was about what was going on.  I would like to check out another one of these books with a subject that Emily knew a lot more about, I think she would understand it even more on her own.

For our project Emily made a candy corn.  I was planning on having her glue white, orange and yellow pom poms onto a candy corn shape, however she decided that she would rather paint the candy corn shape.  So that is what she did!

I cut out a candy corn shape out of tag board.  First she painted orange leaving the top white.

Next, she painted the yellow. 

When she was all finished her favorite part was eating the real piece of candy corn.

Since there was extra paint in the tray she asked for a piece of paper to paint on with the yellow and orange paint.  This made me happy since I always feel bad wasting the extra paint!!
