Our week in TOTSchool

Emily is 32 months old.

Emily enjoyed playing with Juliette. She has been great at getting her to laugh. One day she had Juliette giggling like crazy as she was jumping across the room. It seems like Juliette can’t wait to join in on all of the fun that Emily is always having.IMG_9901

Emily had fun at music this week. She liked playing the egg shakers.

My friend Sarah invited us over for TOTSchool at her house. Here Emily is mixing the batter for pumpkin muffins.IMG_9920

Emily was excited to spoon the batter into the pan, however after the first two I was left to finish up.

Emily loved this great fine motor skill activity. Sarah put a piece of uncooked spaghetti into a mound of play-doh and gave the kids a plate of Cheerios. Emily put the all onto the spaghetti and was very excited to eat the rest for snack.

For Open Ended Art we looked at some of Henri Matisse’s cutouts and then Emily created two of her own. IMG_9941For our stART project we read Five Green and Speckled Frogs and made a Log with 5 Frog stick puppets to help Emily retell the story. This project was a big hit since she loves the color green!!

Our favorite books from this week:

  • Five Green and Speckled Frogs ~ Priscilla Burris
  • Toot and Puddle ~ Holly Hobbie
  • If You Give a Moos a Muffin ~ Laura Numeroff
  • Panda Bear, Panda Bear What Do You See? ~ Bill Martin Jr.

stART ~ Five Green and Speckled Frogs

A Story + Art = A Great stART!
Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our book and art project and maybe even share your own too! For an explanation of stART click here.
This week we read Five Green and Speckled Frogs, by Priscilla Burris. This is a cute book based on the song. The repetitive text makes it easy for Emily to read, or sing along.
Since Emily has been requesting this book so often I knew it had to be used for our stART project this week! I wanted another project that could help her tell the story and this is what I came up with. I printed out a frog clipart and then all I needed was 6 popsicle sticks, a paper towel tube and supplies to decorate the frogs.
IMG_9934Emily colored the frogs with different shades of green

Emily decorated the frogs with wiggly eyes and sequins

Emily colored the paper towel tube with brown marker and glued on some sequins.
I taped popsicle sticks to the frogs and made 5 slits in the paper towel tube. I also made a slit in the back and added a popsicle stick to help it stand up on its own.

Open Ended Art ~ Henri Matisse

My Mini-Matisse

This weeks Open Ended Art theme is Henri Matisse.  At first I had no idea what to do with this, so I Googled Henri Matisse.  Emily and I took a look at his paper collages.  I asked Emily which ones she liked the best and then printed the picture out for her.  I cut out all the shapes and then gave Emily glue and the printout and let her do her thing.

After she finished her first Matisse she said “Mommy I want to do the one with  the squares now” so of course we did that one too!

Virtual Painting

Emily's Computer Art

Emily loves to pretend to “Do work” on the computer. I often find her sitting at the desk pretending to type and move the mouse around. The other day instead of having her get down, I opened up Microsoft Paint and let her explore it. She was very excited when I printed her final masterpiece!

Muffin Tin Monday is…

…Out Of This World!!!

This weeks theme for Muffin Tin Monday is “Outer Space.”  We have not been able to do a muffin tin meal in awhile so Emily was so excited when she saw the muffin tin come out this morning!

Astronaut Pudding

I put 1 Tablespoon instant pudding mix and 1/4 cup milk into a ziplock bag.

IMG_9905Emily squeezed it and squished it until it was all mixed together.

IMG_9908 I snipped the corner of the bag of and Emily slurped it right out of the bag like an astronaut!

Friday Art Group

Puffy Paint Ghosts and Colorful Fall Trees

IMG_9879

The girls had a great time getting messy while making our Puffy Paint Ghosts.  When I saw this idea  on No Time For Flashcards I had to try it during art group.

These colorful fall trees were a great painting project!  I cut out a cloud shape from the top of each piece of card stock and  also cut different tree shapes out of brown construction paper before art group.

IMG_9822 IMG_9823

The Girls glued on the brown construction paper to look like tree branches.

IMG_9824 IMG_9825

We taped the card stock with the cloud shaped cutout over the top of the tree and the girls sponge painted away with different fall leaf colors.

Finally we took the stencil off to reveal their beautiful fall trees!

TOTSchool

Tot School

Our past few weeks in TOTSchool
Emily is 31 months old!

It has been a little crazy here after we went on our Church Retreat Juliette was in the hospital for 6 days with a really bad kidney infection. We are home now and she is doing really well. We still have 1 more test to take her for and we are praying that will be it. Things are starting to get back to normal here. These are a few of the activities we have been up to that I didn't get to post for TOTSchool.

We went to Camp Quinipet on Shelter Island with our Church for our annual family retreat. It is an amazing weekend of fun, food and of course fellowship. We look forward to it every year!

Our family in front of the Gazebo in the water.

Emily using her Ocean Treasure Keeper to collect rocks and shells from the beach with Aunt Jennifer

Making a Plaster of Paris hand print mosaic in the sand.

Emily trying to skip stones like Daddy.

Emily and Juliette in the jammies all ready for bed!

Working on a giant floor puzzle on one of our trips to the library. Emily loves doing all the different puzzles in the children's section!

We are learning to play the hand bells in the music class my friend Sarah teaches.

Sorting M&M's in an egg carton.

We went pumpkin picking. Emily chose this cute little pumpkin for Juliette :0)

Emily loves this sponge activity. She decided that Big Abby needed to help too!

We went to Sarah's house to do TOTSchool with Ryleigh. Sarah made these name cards for all of the kids in our playgroup. I love them and can't wait to make a set for our house!

Emily had fun with her stART project this week. She made The Old Lady That Swallowed a Bat so we could retell the story during the week.

Emily and Daddy are making the eyes for Emily's tree frog costume. Check out the finished products here!!

Emily and her Cousin had fun coloring in her giant coloring book.
