Our Christmas Tree

Ever since Emily’s first Christmas we have gone to pick out and cut down our own fresh Christmas Tree!  It is so much fun to see how much more exciting this is for her each year.  This year is special since it is Juliette’s first tree.

Open Ended Art ~ Blue and Silver

This weeks Open Ended Art theme is Blue and Silver.  Emily had a great time creating her art with Mommy and Daddy today.  I am not feeling well so Daddy stayed home to help watch the girls!!

To start I set out a tray of blue and silver art supplies:

IMG_0258Foil, Blue Construction Paper, Blue and Silver Snowflake Stickers, Blue and Silver Glitter Glue, Blue Markers and Blue and Silver Sequins and Spangles (these are currently Emily’s favorite art supply!!)

Emily couldn’t wait to get her hands on all of the fun supplies,  she got right to work creating her masterpiece!!

Emily colored with the blue markers.

Then, painted with the blue glitter glue.

IMG_0262

She liked ripping the tin foil and scrunching it into balls to glue onto the paper.

IMG_0263

And of course her favorite part was gluing on the sequins and spangles!!

TOTSchool

Tot School

Our week in TOTSchool

Emily is 33 months old.

IMG_0079

Emily had fun at Sarah’s house for music class. She enjoyed playing the tambourine.

IMG_0087

Juliette and Braeden had fun playing after the girls finished music class! I can’t believe how big they are getting :0)

IMG_0091

We made really cute Christmas Trees painting with popsicle sticks and gluing on pom poms.

IMG_0096

Emily worked on the letter G for Garden. Sarah came up with this project and I thought that it came out so cute!!

IMG_0120

We participated in the Christmas Card Swap at Kids Crafts Weekly. Emily was so excited to get her first card all the way from New Zealand. It had stickers, stamps and play money in it! We can’t wait to learn about all of the other kids that we swapped cards with.

IMG_0122 IMG_0131

We made chocolate chip cookies. This was great practice with scooping and stirring. They were also very excited to eat their finished products!!

IMG_0124

Emily really enjoyed the water dropper. We used them again to practice fine motor skills and color mixing.

IMG_0125

We did our stART project with our friends this week and made a Star Paper Chain Christmas Countdown.

IMG_0133

IMG_0134

For Art Group we had some free play with our new peppermint play dough. We made hand print Santa Clauses and did some Salad Spinner Art.

IMG_0145

We were supposed to go to the tree lighting at our Church so Emily and I backed some Chocolate Chip Bars, however she ended up with a fever so we just stayed in and enjoyed them at home.

Our favorite books from this week:

  • A Star for Jesus ~Crystal Bowman
  • Get Ready Eddie? A Book About Getting Dressed ~ Nat Gabriel
  • Pooh and Piglet Nearly Catch a Woozle ~ A. A. Milne
  • 9 Fruits Alive (God Counts Series) ~ Mindy MacDonald

Friday Art Group

Handprint Santa and Salad Spinner Art

IMG_0133

Today it was just the two girls but we still had a lot of fun!

They started with play dough free play.  I made new peppermint play dough by adding peppermint extract to the play dough mixture.

IMG_0144

These Handprint Santa’s were fun to make.   Emily and E love painting with their hands and fingers!

IMG_0134

Santa’s beard is their handprint and they used their fingerprints for his cheeks, nose mouth and trim on his hat.  We added wiggly eyes and a pom pom for the hat.

We glued on this poem:

Look very closely and you will see,

That Santa’s beard was made by me.

Hang this Santa on your wall,

To remember when I was very small!

~~~~~~~~~
In between the projects we sang a cute Santa song.  I made copies of the songs so they could be practiced at home too.
I'm a Little Santa
Sung to: "I'm a Little Teapot"
I'm a little Santa short and fat,
Here is my beard and here is my sack,
On Christmas Eve I hop in my sleigh,
With a "Ho ho ho" I'm on my way.
IMG_0143
I can’t wait to try these again, my friend and I thought they would make cute ornaments if they were a little smaller and maybe laminated.
IMG_0137
I cut circles of paper to fit into the bottom of a salad spinner.  The girls used droppers to drop watered down tempera paint into the salad spinner.
IMG_0135
Next we added the cover and the girls turned the handle to make it spin.  It was fun to see what happened when we opened the cover!
stART ~ A Star For Jesus
Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our book and art project and maybe even share your own too! For an explanation of stART click here.
star for jesus
This week we read A Star for Jesus, by Crystal Bowman. This is a wonderful retelling of the Christmas Story! It also explains the significance of the Star at Christmas time.
Last year I made a Star and Paper Chain Christmas Countdown. Emily really enjoyed taking of a link each night and I think it helped her picture how long until Christmas. So this year I was very excited that she would be able to help me make it again. We were able to do our stART project with 2 of our friends too.
First I cut out a star from yellow construction paper and this little poem to glue to the star:
Each evening when goodnights are said,
Take off one link and hop into bed.
When only the star is left to shine,
then you will know it’s Christmastime!
I was very excited that Sarah was able to laminate all of the stars for us so we will be able to use it again an again!
IMG_0125
The girls all helped make the paper chains. We attached 25 chains to the star!
