Kids in the Kitchen ~ S’mores Bars

S'mores Bars

After dinner the other night we were all craving something sweet for dessert.  I found an amazing recipe for S’mores Bars, to use up the giant bag of chocolate chips and marshmallows that I bought at BJ’s around Christmas.

Oh My goodness were they tasty!!

Of course my little helper had a great time making these with me!

IMG_1236We had to make crumbs out of the graham crackers.  Emily started them and then said “Mommy you do it, this is really tricky and you have bigger muscles”  IMG_1237

Emily is a wonderful mixer and didn’t need any help for this step.

I didn’t get any other pictures because I set the camera down and just enjoyed working with Emily.  She loved helping me scatter the chocolate chips, marshmallows, and crumb topping.

IMG_1238 After about 15 minutes in the oven we were all enjoying our yummy S’mores Dessert!!

I made a few changes in the recipe so here is my version of S’mores Bars:

Mix together 1 stick of melted butter, and about 5 cups graham cracker crumbs. Press half the mixture into a 9x13 pan and bake for 5 minuets.   Then layer 2 cups chocolate chips, 3 cups marshmallows and then cover with the other half of the graham cracker mixture. Press it down with a spatula. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes, let cool and cut into bars.

After it cooled it was not as gooey as when it first comes out of the oven.  At first I was like there is no way we are going to be able to eat these and we couldn’t wait so we used a fork.  But, the next day you could actually hold them in your hand and eat them like a brownie.  That made for super easy snacking, they did not last long :0)
