Cutting out Stickers

Emily has been doing such a great job using the scissors to cut strips of construction paper. She likes to cut each strip into the smallest pieces possible. To help her practice cutting in a certain spot I added stickers to the strips of paper and had Emily cut in between them.

She was so excited that she "cut out the sticker" and it was great practice in leading to more purposeful cutting!!

Muffin Tin Monday

Circles Everywhere!!

This weeks theme for Muffin Tin Monday was Choose Your Own Theme. Since we did a fun Circle Collage this morning I thought it would be fun to make CIRCLES our theme for today's lunch too!

Circle Collage and Paper Towel Roll Painting

Emily's Circle Collage

I wanted to do some paper towel roll printing with Emily today and it turned into a whole circle collage! Emily had a lot of fun using the different materials to collage with. She loves gluing and stickers and she especially LOVES paint.

For the collage I gave Emily construction paper circles that I cut out in different sizes and colors, colored circle lables, and white reinforcements. When she was finished with that part she did the paper towel printing with yellow and blue paint.

For the final step Emily dipped a cut paper towel roll into paint...

...and made circle prints with it!

While Emily was working on this project we talked about the different sizes and colors of the circles. She liked doing the small circles the best. Since I gave her yellow and blue paint we also talked about how it turned into green when she was painting with it.

When we were all finished I asked he what her favorite part was and her answer was, "All of it!"

More circle fun is planned for Lunch...I can't wait :0)

TOTSchool

Our week in TOTSchool!

Emily is 27 months old

We continued talking about Farms this week and did this fun negative space farm painting.

Emily also did some finger painting!
Emily "magically" made some shapes and letters appear with this painting project.

Emily had fun blowing bubbles with our homemade bubble blower.

Emily practiced cutting strips of paper.

Emily enjoyed working with these Pooh's Number Match learning cards that Aunt Jennifer got for her.

Emily decided she was not going to stack them, but nest these Melissa & Doug Alphabet Nesting and Stacking Blocks today!

Emily's new puzzle. She loved this What's Next Sequence Puzzle. Emily put them together and we talked about what was happening in the beginning, middle and end. She did a great job telling me the story! I am so excited because I found them for $1.25 at a consignment shop!

Homemade Bubble Blower

Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere!!

Emily loves going outside and blowing bubbles now that the weather is so nice. She also loves running around on the lawn chasing and popping bubbles. I made this really simple bubble blower that makes lots of little bubbles. It definitely works better than the little wands that come with the bubbles!

To make the bubble blower just take a bunch of straws cut them to the length you want and then tape them all together.

Then just dip one end into bubble solution and blow through the other end!

(I put the bubble solution in an empty individual serving size applesauce cup, which was the perfect size.)

Unplugged Project ~ Magic

Magic Painting

This weeks Unplugged Project was "Magic" so Emily and I did some Magic Painting.

Every year at my Church's Easter Party we dye Easter Eggs and it was my job to make crosses on them with a clear wax crayon. The kids were then surprised to see them "magically" appear once they dyed their eggs. For this weeks project I did something similar with Emily except instead of eggs we used plain white paper and watered down paint. It was a lot of fun to see the surprise on Emily's face as the pictures "magically" appeared on her white paper when she painted with the blue paint!

First, I drew some shapes on a piece of plain white paper with a clear wax crayon.

I gave Emily some watered down paint and told her to paint the whole page.

As she painted over the parts that I had colored with the wax crayon the shapes began to appear.

I gave Emily the wax crayon and let her try it.

She said, "Mommy, how come I no see it?" while she was drawing.

Emily drew circles all over the paper and then painted over them...unfortunately she didn't press hard enough so it was hard to see her drawings. I made her another one to try with just scribbles all over it. She was happy to watch the lines appear all over the paper! We will definitely be doing this activity again...we BOTH had a lot of fun!

**Make sure that the paint is watered down enough or it just covered over the wax**

***This would probably work really well with water colors or water color paints***

Negative Space Farm Painting

A Pig in the Mud

We have been reading and talking about farm animals for the past week. We read the book Pigs in the Mud in the Middle of the Rud, by Lynn Plourde and I thought that these negative space paintings would be a fun project for Emily to do to go along with the book!

I traced pieces from her Melissa & Doug Farm Wooden Chunky Puzzle onto cardboard and cut them out.

For the first one Emily taped the pig shape onto a piece of pink construction paper

Next, she painted over the shape with brown paint.

When she was finished we pulled off the pig cardboard shape to see what was left behind.

We decided that it looked like a pig in the mud!!

Emily enjoyed doing this so we did it again with all of the cardboard shapes.

Emily covered the whole piece of construction paper with green, yellow and brown paint.

Then we peeled of the pieces to revel our negative space farm!
