Little People Lift-the-Flap Cars, Trucks, Planes and Trains and Magic Tree House Tonight on the Titanic: Sorting Land, Air and Water Transportation ~ Poppins Book Nook

This month the theme for the Poppins Book Nook  was Planes, Trains and Automobiles.  We enjoyed reading the Fisher-Price Little People Lift-the-Flap Cars, Trucks, Planes and Trains.  Emily read the book to Juliette and they both have fun looking under the flaps to see different pictures.  Since this was an easy book for Emily to read she also read Magic Tree House: Tonight on the Titanic.  She is currently working her way through the Magic Tree House series and was so excited to be up to this book and it fit in perfectly with our Transportation theme this month!

For our project the girls sorted different types of Air, Land and Water transportation which we turned into a little art project to make it a little more fun.

IMG_3673This was nice and easy.  We used green and blue construction paper to make the sky, land and water.

IMG_3674IMG_3676Then I printed some transportation clip art from the computer and then had the girls cut them out and glue it onto the construction paper in the correct spot.

Transportation SortFinally, they decided that it would be fun to add the details in with crayons.

stART ~ Little People Cars, Trucks, Planes, and Trains

Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too. All I ask is that you link back to A Mommy’s Adventures so that everyone can see all the other great projects that everyone shares too! The linky will be open all week.

I added a stART tab in my navigation bar to make it easier to search for past stART projects. Be sure to check it out!! All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.

Recently, Emily has requested that we read Little People, Cars, Trucks, Planes and Trains, by Readers Digest just about every night.  She loves looking at and finding things in the pictures and of course opening all of the flaps!

To go along with this book we did some “sculpture” with a set of Krinkles Blocks that were tucked away in the closet since Christmas.  Emily loved helping me build different vehicles with the pieces in this set.  I was so excited with how much she enjoyed creating with these blocks.  I started the base of the car for her and she added the rest IMG_4225 IMG_4226 IMG_4227

She was very proud of the  race car we built together!!

Flying Baby

When I saw this baby activity I knew Juliette would love it. She loves when I lift her up high above my head like she is flying and I thought the words to this little rhyme were so cute!

To start I laid down on the bed and put Juliette on my belly with her head close to mine.

Up like a rocket, (I lifted Juliette in the air toward my face)
Down like a plane, (I brought her back to the starting position)
Back and forth like a Choo-choo train. (I raised her up again and gently moved her forward and backward)
I can fly here, (I moved her to one side)
I can fly there, ( I moved her to the other side)
I can fly anywhere. ( I moved her all over)

This activity is great because it is a lot of fun and it helps develop the muscles in the head and neck, shoulders, upper and lower back.

Muffin Tin Monday

A Train for Muffin Tin Monday

This weeks theme for Muffin Tin Monday is "Planes Trains and Automobiles". We had fun reading some transportation books this morning before lunch and making a Traffic Light Project to go with the Muffin Tin Theme for today. Emily loved watching me make her Peanut Butter Cracker Train!

Emily's Muffin Tin Lunch
Top Row: Banana Sun, Berry Blue Jell-O with Blueberries (the sky)
Middle: Peanut Butter Cracker Train with Raisin wheels, Banana and sprinkle windows and pretzel connectors.
Bottom Row: Grapes (the land)

She is so excited for her Muffin Tin Lunch!!!

Her favorite part was the Jell-O of course :0)

Red Light, Green Light

Emily's Traffic Light
We were reading Little People Cars, Trucks, Planes, and Trains and You Can Drive an Automobile (Golden Drive Away Book), by Carolyn Bracken this morning and I decided this would be a fun project to go along with them. I cut out 3 sections of an egg carton and gave Emily red, yellow and green paint. We talked about where the colors where on a traffic light and what they meant before she painted each section.

Painting Green for Go!

Yellow, for Get ready to stop.

Red, for Stop!

When Emily was all finished painting I made a slit in the bottom of the egg carton and another slit in the bottom of a small plastic cup. Then I slid a Popsicle stick in each slit and secured it with some tape in the egg carton.

Later on today we will be going outside to play Red Light, Green Light. Emily loves running around when I say green light and freezing in place when I say red light.

**This is our version of the game since we only have 1 player, for now :0)
