stART ~ I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More!

Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too. All I ask is that you link back to A Mommy’s Adventures somewhere in your post by either adding my button or a text link, so that others can see all the other great projects that everyone shares too! The linky will be open all week.  Be sure to stop by and visit the different links…every week there are so many different and fun book and craft ideas!

Check out the  stART tab in my navigation bar where you can find our past stART projects.  All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.

This week we read I Ain't Gonna Paint No More!, by Karen Beaumont.  This is a really cute story about a child that is not allowed to paint anymore because his mom found him painting all over the floors and walls.  So he decides he is going to paint is body instead.  He is just going to paint his head, but can’t resist covering his entire body in color!  I read this book to our Art Group and then after each child was able to paint their hands and then print them onto a piece of paper.  Or they could trace their hand on the paper and paint just the paper.  Off course since painting your hand with paint is so much fun, they all opted for that option!  Emily did decide that she wanted to try both since there was room on her paper.

My Little Copy Cat

Let Me See Your Tongue!

This is probably Juliette's favorite game and it is so simple. She loves to copy! To play I just sit in front of her and make faces, stick out my tongue and say "Hello." She tries to copy almost all of the time even since she was only a few days old. Sometimes she actually sounds like she is saying "Hello" her mouth actually moves the way you would if you were saying it! Emily even likes to get in on the fun now and stick her tongue out to get Juliette to copy her.

Here is a clip of Juliette sticking out her tongue, I ask her where her tongue is and also show her mine. Usually by the third try she copies me.

Juliette's Little Piggys go to...

...Stop and Shop!!!

When I was little my mom would always play "This Little Piggy" with our cute little baby toes, however she changed the rhyme to include places and foods that we went to or ate. Emily loved when I did this with her and now likes helping me choose different places and foods when we play it with Juliette. Juliette smiles through the whole game too!!!

This Little Piggy, Our Way

This little Piggy went to Stop and Shop
This little piggy stayed home
This little piggy had watermelon
This little piggy had none
And this little piggy went...
wee, wee,wee all the way home.

Kisses Kisses Everywhere!

Loving Kisses

This is another game that Juliette really enjoyed. I like it because it is so simple and sweet. We play this while I am getting her dressed or just whenever! I found this idea from the book Games to Play with Babies, byJackie Silberg.

To play just say:

"I love your toes, toes, toes" as you kiss your baby's adorable little toes!

"I love your cheeks, cheeks, cheeks" and kiss your babies chunky little cheeks!

Continue with other parts of the body. This game is great for helping babies become aware of their bodies and of how much you love them!

How wonderful is that smile!

Unplugged Project ~ People

Emily and Juliette's People Tracings
This weeks Unplugged Project theme is "People". Emily loves having her hands traced so I thought she would think it was fun to trace Juliette. It would also be a fun project for us to save and remember how tiny she was. It also turned out that yesterday when we did the project Juliette was exactly 7 weeks old!!

I laid Juliette down on a long piece of drawing paper and traced around her.
Emily is helping her arm stay in the right place in this picture.

Emily was able to draw her face and color in her outfit.

She did a great job on the face...but it didn't show up in the photo.

I traced the pencil outline in marker so we could see it better. Emily actually enjoyed coloring her in!

Now it was Emily's turn!
After I hung up the picture of Juliette I thought we needed one of Emily so we could see the size difference.

Emily colored in her body and drew her face. I also worked with her to label some of the different parts of the body. (Head, Fingers, Legs, Feet, Belly)

Look at that face! Emily was so proud of her work. I love how they look on the wall. These will be such a great memory of how little my girls were :0)

It's Juliette's Turn!!

Baby Fun
When Emily was little I was always looking for things to keep her smiling and entertained in between feeding and naps. The library had lots of different books that had poems, songs, games and other activities to do with babies. So I headed back to library for a refresher course on baby fun!!
Baby's Fingers
This chant is from Games to Play with Babies, by Jackie Silberg
While I said the chant to Juliette I touched the parts of her body that were mentioned as I named them. She was smiling throughout the game!!
Where, oh where, are baby's finger?
Where, oh where, are baby's toes?
Where's the baby's belly button?
'Round and 'round it goes.
Where, oh where , are baby's ears?
Where, oh where, is baby's nose?
Where's the baby's bellybutton?
'Round and 'round it goes.

Silly Faces

Eyes and Ears and Mouth and Nose...
Silly Faces by Emily

Emily loves the song "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes." She also loves pointing out Eyes and Ears and Mouths and Noses. So I decided we should make silly faces from pictures of Eyes, Ears, Mouths and Noses I had cut out of different magazines. The result is some pretty funny looking faces and a couple of good laughs.

Once we were ready to start we sang "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and then got to work sorting our pieces. Emily was able to put the eyes, ears, noses and mouths into different piles. I taped contact paper to the table sticky side up so that we could just stick the pieces right on instead of having to use glue for this activity.

Here Emily adding the mouth she picked.

Smoothing down the nose she picked.

Posing for a picture with her Silly Faces Project and her Little People Baby (the baby helped pick some of the pieces too!)

Emily was so excited to show Daddy...she said "look at tato heads Daddy."
