Rice Sensory Bin Challenge

My girls love sensory play and our Rice Bin has been one of their favorites since they were pretty young.  I have set up all different themed sensory bins with things that I thought the girls would find fun.  They always seem to enjoy scooping and pouring the rice from one container to the next.  When I found out about this child led Rice Sensory Bin Challenge I couldn’t wait to participate.  The awesome part about this challenge is that it is a child led play project.  All I did was fill one of our Plastic Storage Bins with some plain white rice and the rest was up to Juliette!

Here is what Juliette came up with:

Rice Sensory Bin She decided to add some of our Play-Doh toys to her Rice Bin.  This included, plates, a spoon and fork, ice cream cones, an ice cream dish, a whisk, candles and a paint palate.

She spend lots of time scooping and pouring the rice from one cup to the next.

She also had fun making ice cream sundaes and singing “Happy Birthday!’

After awhile she came up with a Hide and Seek game for us to play.  She would hide one of the pieces under the rice and I had to find it.  Then I hid one of the pieces and she had to find it.

I loved seeing and listening to her as she played with the rice.  She loved that she was in control of this activity, by picking everything out it was everything that she wanted and I loved that about this project!

Product Review: Blok Squad Construction Unit Mission by Mega Bloks

image When I was contacted by Team Mom to review a Mega Bloks building set I knew right away that the girls would love the Construction Mission!

IMG_1826

Our Blok Squad Construction Mission set arrived and we got right to work building it.  This set contains 218 pieces that creat two vehicles and figures including  a 4x4 and Front Loader.

IMG_1829  We used the great directions with easy to follow pictures to see what pieces we needed and where they should go.  I worked on the construction vehicles and the girls helped me find the pieces.  This set is  intended for children ages  5 and older, but with supervision my girls (almost 5 and 2 1/2 had fun with it).

IMG_1828IMG_1830Emily and Juliette  found the pieces for the construction workers and put them together all by themselves.  They had fun walking them around and making them go into the vehicles when I was finished putting them together.

I really liked that these sets introduce kids to everyday heroes.  They are available with themes such as fire patrol, police as well as construction.  They also let them use their imaginations for hours of open-ended play.  I think they would love them in our sand table.

You can find this set along with the other themed Blok Squad sets at Toys “R” Us, Walmart and amazon.com

Also be sure to check out the Mega Bloks Family Club for product information, on-line games and activities.

Pattern Block Pictures

Emily and Juliette always ask to use our wooden pattern blocks, but then get frustrated when the pieces will not stay still for them to work with.  They slide all over the table and the girls end up walking away from them after a few minutes.  So, when I was cleaning out a cabinet and found a roll of  rubber drawer liners I immediately thought of the pattern blocks.  I had a long piece so I cut it in half and gave each of the girls a mat to work on.

IMG_0926 The pieces stuck to the drawer liner and the girls had so much fun making all different designs with the pattern blocks.

IMG_0927 After more than half an hour this turned into…

Product Review: Moon Dough Push n’ Pop Breakfast Set

I was so excited when I was contacted by Team Mom to review the new improved Moon Dough Formula.  IMG_1616Emily and Juliette have enjoyed playing with Moon Dough at their friend’s house, however after seeing what a huge mess it made did not want it in our house.   I have to say I am so glad I gave this set a chance because the girls had SO much fun making all kinds of yummy breakfast treats with it.

IMG_1672 The Moon Dough Push n’ Pop Breakfast Set came with 2 colors of moon dough (which can be mixed together for a cool tie die effect or completely blended to make a new color), a play mat,  a twisty mold and 3 Push n’ Pop molds.

IMG_1617 Juliette was able to use the new Push n’ Pop molds to easily make pancakes, waffles or toast.  Emily and I loved using the twisty mold to make the different toppings.  The moon dough molds really well and pops right out.  Emily was able to do it all by herself and they really looked great.

The new moon dough formula was better than the one that the girls had played with at a friends house, although it did crumble a little bit, it was easy to get it back together and did not stick to their clothes at all.  I also loved that it does not dry up.  It is also Wheat-free and Hypo-allergenic.  The girls were able to make their  breakfast creations and play with them for hours without worrying about putting them away.

There is also a Push n' Pop Sea Creatures set available that looks really cute.  Sso if you want something that your child will have hours of fun creating with, with minimal mess I definitely recommend these Moon Dough Push n’ Pop Sets!
