Summer Fun List ~ Make Homemade Lemonade

IMG_8512I have never actually made homemade lemonade myself, but have always wanted to so I thought this would be the perfect thing to add to our Summer Fun List.  Lemonade always makes me think about beautiful warm summer days playing outside and having a good time.

First we gathered all the supplies we would need:

6 lemons,  1/2 a cup of sugar and 1 cup of water

I also got out my little juicer and pink glass pitcher.

First, I made a simple syrup with 1/2 a cup of sugar and 1 cup of water.  This was a simple step and all I did was just melt the sugar into the water in a saucepan on the stove then let cool.

Then it was time for the girls to get to work!!

Emily and Juliette took turns juicing the lemons.  I cut them in half and they used their muscles to push it around on the little glass juicer.  They thought it was neat that the pits stayed in the top and the juice flowed to the bottom.

IMG_8503IMG_8505 In between of course they had to taste some lemons…they were nice and sour!!

IMG_8506 IMG_8507 Finally, we added the juice of the lemons, the simple syrup that I had made earlier, some ice and enough water to fill the pitcher, probably about 4 cups and the girls took turns stirring it.

Time for a taste….the girls loved it!!

Summer Fun List ~ Outdoor Oobleck

We are having so much fun completing the activities on our Summer Fun List.  I was watching my nephew and he read over our list and said he really wanted to do Outdoor Oobleck with us and that is just what we did.

IMG_8605

I originally intended on filling a small baby pool with Oobleck, but I was really not sure how much cornstarch I would need to do that, I got five boxes and figured we could see how much that would make.  Once I got the boxes home I realized that we would need a smaller container for the Oobleck than I thought.   I was happy to find this under the bed storage bin in the shed which worked really well.   It probably could have used a few more boxes, but now we know for next time!

I dumped all 5 boxes into the bin and then added about 2 small buckets of water.  The recipe is 2 parts cornstarch to 1 part water.  We also added green food coloring which left all of our hands a lovely tinge of green :0)

Outdoor Oobleck Fun!!!

IMG_8622The kids wore their bathing suits so that they could play in the Oobleck and then rinse it off in the pool.

I hope to do this again with a few more boxes of cornstarch since we discovered that Oobleck is very relaxing for adults to play with too!

All I ask is that you link back to A Mommy’s Adventures somewhere in your post by either adding my button or a text link, so that others can see all the other great projects that everyone shares too! The linky will be open all week.  Be sure to stop by and visit the different links…every week there are so many different and fun book and craft ideas!

Check out the  stART tab in my navigation bar where you can find our past stART projects.  All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.

This week we read Beach Bugs, by David A. Carter.  This is a really cute pop up book that shows many of the fun things that you can do while at the beach.  Emily and Juliette’s favorite page is the one with all of the fireflies that actually light up.

To go along with this book Emily made her own sand castle out of sand paper.  I cut out some different castle shapes and gave them to Emily to glue on however she wanted.  Then I also provided crayons, buttons, glue and actual sand to decorate the castles with.

Emily decided that she wanted to cut the door in half and glue the sides so that it could open up.  I was so proud of her for coming up with that all on her own.  I love to see her using her creativity!!

Emily was very excited to be able to use one of her Ariel stickers to add to the picture too.

Summer Fun List ~ Water Balloons

IMG_8427

We were able to cross water balloons off of our Summer Fun List!!

The kids and grownups had so much fun getting wet and keeping cool on a warm summer day by tossing water balloons around.

IMG_8418   Daddy, Aunt Jennifer and Mommy filled up lots and lots of water balloons, with the help of the kids too.  We were actually able to fill their blue step 2 sink up to the top.

IMG_8428 On the run with a full water balloon!

Emily and our neighbor tossed the balloons to each other waiting to see who it would soak.

IMG_8422 My favorite picture from the day was Emily’s Cousin trying to break a water balloon over her head :0)

I scream, You scream…

…we all scream for ICE CREAM cones!!!

 IMG_4682

Emily has been enjoying the summer and especially getting ices from Ralph’s after dinner.  She also really loves ICE CREAM!!  I thought it would be fun to make our own ice cream cone project and Emily totally agreed.  We had a great time making this project with our art group friends!

We used pink, brown and white construction paper, brown and red paint, and all different colored tissue paper squares.

IMG_4668

First, the girls painted the cone shape that I cut out for them brown with a small sponge.

IMG_4671Next, they glued on the ice cream scoops.  I cut out a pink, white and brown circle for each child.

IMG_4672After that, they used their thumb to make a red thumbprint cherry on top. IMG_4673 Finally they glued tissue paper sprinkles all over their ice cream scoops, which looked really cute and was also great fine motor skills practice.

Yummy yummy!!!

We are planning on making some homemade ice cream too, so stay tuned  :0)

stART ~ Corduroy’s 4th of July

Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too. All I ask is that you link back to A Mommy’s Adventures so that everyone can see all the other great projects that everyone shares too! The linky will be open all week.

I added a stART tab in my navigation bar to make it easier to search for past stART projects. Be sure to check it out!! All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.

This week to get ready to celebrate the 4th of July we have been reading Corduroy's Fourth of July, by Don Freeman.  This is a simple board book that both Emily and Juliette are able to enjoy.  The book is sturdy enough to stand up to Juliette tugging at the pages and the simple story lists some of the fun things that you do to celebrate the 4th of July.  Emily and I talked about the things that we saw in the pictures and how they were similar or different from the things that we are going to do.

Emily and I made a flag inspired wind sock to help decorate our house for the 4th of July.

 IMG_4130

Emily used the star piece to our shape sorting bucket to cover a piece of blue construction paper with star prints.

 IMG_4145

I didn’t have any streamers handy so I cut red and white tissue paper into thin strips.  Once the stars where dry I had Emily glue the tissue paper strips to the bottom of the paper.  She did a great job with the red and white pattern.  Once she covered the bottom in the tissue paper we rolled the blue paper and taped it together.

IMG_4148

I hole punched two holes in the sides at the top and used a shiny silver pipe cleaner to hang it.

I love this festive windsock and Emily had a great time making it!!
