This week we read One fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, by Dr. Seuss.  Emily LOVES when we read Dr. Seuss.  We also have the board book version of this book for babies, which we also read with Juliette.  Both girls love moving the little fish beads on the top of the board book.  Emily pointed out all the different colored fish and helped Juliette count them.

I had some really cute foam fish that went really well with this book and when I saw the idea for finger painting on sandpaper at The Shafer Family I knew I had the perfect project.  I actually did the finger painting with our art group and it went over very well, with the exception of on little girl that didn’t want to try it, but loved doing it at home :0)

Sandpaper Oceans

I gave each child white paint and two shades of blue paint  to finger paint with on a sheet of sandpaper (I got the sandpaper at the dollar tree 12 sheets for $1.00!!!)

After the paint dried we glued Emily glued the fish onto the sandpaper.  As she was gluing them she told me that they were all following in a line.  I love when she tells me stories about her art project! Emily’s Finished Sandpaper Ocean 

Wordless Wednesday

Emily found this Mets shirt and decided she had to wear it, I remembered that Juliette had one too so of course Daddy needed a picture with his two little girls supporting his favorite baseball team!!!

Writing with Nature

Emily loves writing letters and now whenever I give her a piece of paper and markers she covers it in her name, Mommy and Daddy.

Recently, while Emily was playing outside with Daddy and Grandpa they worked on writing names with sticks and rocks.  Emily was so excited to see her name on the driveway we had to look for it every time we went outside!!

Muffin Tin Monday

Yesterday we went out to dinner to celebrate Father’s Day which means we had some yummy leftovers for Muffin Tin Monday today!

Having Fun Learning

 

Our Week Having Fun Learning Together!

Emily is 40 months old and Juliette is 11 months old

We have been so busy I am having a hard time finding the time to get anything posted.  So here are all the fun things that we have been doing while having fun learning together!!

Emily playing Oh Rats! with her dolls at Grandma’s house.  She did this all by herself, she got them all together and set up and spun the spinner for each of her little girls to have a turn it was so adorable to watch!!  I am constantly amazed at her imagination, it reminds me of how I used to play when I was little and I love being able to watch and listen to her play.

The girls had a great time playing a bingo game that I got from the Dollar Tree.

Emily and her friends had fun in the sprinklers and playing with water outside.

Emily and her friends love playing in the back yard on the swing set!!

Emily practiced transferring felt bow tie pasta with her training chopsticks.

 

I finally had a chance to take both Emily and Juliette to our children’s Museum.  I am so excited to have our membership back and am looking forward to checking out some other children’s Museums with the reciprocal membership program.

THe last time we went to the museum Emily was to scared to get into this contraption.  This time I couldn’t get her out.  They stand in the middle and pull the bar down to make a bubble around themselves. Emily is testing out an Egyptian bed and Pillow (not very comfy looking pillow) at the traveling exhibit about sleep around the world.

       While we were at our friends house we discovered a large earth worm on the patio.  The girls were able to look at it and even touch it.

Juliette’s first time in the park swing.  She really seemed to enjoy it!

Juliette is a little climber!  She climbs up the later and then slides right down.

She had fun exploring these toys at our friends house.

Juliette loved the Jacob’s Ladder toy I brought back with me for the girls from my trip to Mexico.

…and slid down the bridge, over and over again!

stART ~ Shapes That Roll

We have been doing a lot of shape inspired art so when I saw the book Shapes That Roll, by Karen Nagel at the library I knew it would go along with all of our art really well.  The bright illustrations and playful rhyming text made this a fun book to  read.  Emily enjoyed finding all the different shapes throughout the book.

Here are some of the fun shape art projects that we have been working on.

Circle Collage

Emily used do-a-dot markers, reinforcements, hole punches, circle foam beads and circle felt pieces.

Triangle Contact Paper Collage

I cut out a piece of contact paper in the shape of a triangle.  Emily stuck construction paper and foam triangles to the contact paper.

Square Tissue Paper Art

Emily painted watered down glue onto a piece of square paper and then added colored square tissue paper, she painted over them with the glue and added more squares.  This gives it a really neat look!

  Rectangle Magic Painting

I used white crayon to write the word “Rectangles” and draw different sized rectangles on a piece of construction paper.  Emily then painted over the whole paper with watered down orange paint to reveal the secret shape picture.
